Top Performer Spotlight: 2023 3B Thomas Russo (Royalton-Hartland)

Dan Cevette
President, New York

Since June 7th, our boot-on-the-ground scouting team have seen 700+ players at showcase events, including the 2019 NYS Games. Already, 100's of players have caught the eyes of our professional scouting staff, all with dreams of playing baseball at the next-level. Over the remainder of the summer I (Dan Cevette) will be highlighting "Top Performer Spotlights" on players who really stood-out and offering my "Quick-Hit" thoughts on the players.

CEVETTE'S QUICK HIT

CEVETTE'S QUICK HIT: One of the reasons I love this job is having the ability to track players process throughout the years, especially the ones that really take-off, and Russo is an example of just that. A year and half ago Russo was 69 mph across the diamond - but now he's 80. 76 mph exit velo off a tee, but that number has jumped to an impressive 87, and on the bump, his 73 mph FB has gained five mph (78) - this tells me one thing, Russo has worked extremely hard at his game. He currently stands 5-foot-7, 175-pounds with a thick, strong frame. In the box the hands are loose, slight bat-waggle, above average barrel speed/power with lift through contact. At the corner he moves laterally well, hands are soft and the arm-strength is high-end. Very excited to continue to follow his progress.
