Tim Hunter
VP of Operations

It was a historic preseason here in New York with our boots-on-the-ground scouting staff covering 700+ players at showcase events, all February long. The dust has settled and we are now ramping up our efforts in player rankings, scouting reports, and recap articles. While the outcome of the 2020 HS season is on hold, the Prep Baseball Report (NY) will continue to provide unrivaled coverage for the amateur baseball players in the Empire State.

As we continue our follow up of the Preseason Tour, we will be highlighting "Top Performer Spotlights" on players who recently stood-out at our preseason events. Stay tuned with us for the latest information on the 2020 spring season and beyond.

Scouting Report

Physical: 6-foot-1, 175-pounds. Long, projectable frame. 6.95 runner in the 60; 4.45 home-to-1B.
Offensively: RHH. Crouched stance with bent knees, wide base, hands out in front of shoulders level with shoulders, brings his hands back along with a small stride Gets through the zone quickly, good extension after the point of contact, finishes high with one hand. Up the middle approach. 89 MPH raw exit velocity.
Defensively:  Starts and stays low on approach, uses clean, consistent footwork to field the ball out in front of his body, good lateral movements. Long arm swing with an over the top slot.  INF - 79 MPH.

Standout Skill
What stood out to me was his fielding abilities. His size and athleticism is really something nice. Firm glove actions, fielding the ball out front, and his ability to stay under control with his footwork was pleasing to watch. Procopio has a smooth transfer and really does an exceptional job of working from the ground up.
Player Projection
I think he has the potential to be able to play either 3B/SS. Flashes the ability to handle the ball laterally up the middle, but frame wise and as he continues to grown might be more suitable for 3B in the future.

Quick Hit
"Long frame with good athleticism. Stays middle of the field with approach at the plate, but able to turn on the ball and drive one in the gap. Swing is level with the barrel staying in the zone. Able to play on the run and has smooth glove work. Procopio's ability to have a quick first step will help him move laterally to field the ball."
