top performer Report
Zabala is 6-foot-3 160 pound INF/RHP out of Iona Prep High School. Zabala ran a 7.28 60. Offensively – sets up with a slightly open stance, makes good use of lower half, pre-pitch bat waggle helps him stay loose. Gets on plane early, which helps produce a fly-ball/line drive swing with decent extension and two-handed finish. Exit velocity was 84 MPH off the tee. Defensively - Zabala sets up a bit upright, however he still maintains good lateral movement and has a quick release. Showed some arm strength at 75 MPH with a low angle release. His size and ability to add to his frame, may facilitate a move to either corner INF spot. Pitching – Uses a short side step up to a belt high balance point; low ¾ arm slot with some whip/arm speed. FB sat at 78-80 MPH with a max speed of 82 MPH; slider 70-72 MPH with some late bite/tilt. Showed the ability to stay low in the zone and locate well with both pitches.
