By Nathan Rode and PBR Staff
Continuing our look at recent standouts, we now shift to the 2020 class. Listed alphabetically below are some freshmen that stood out at winter events.
Luke Banister, C, Hutto HS, TX
Banister has a strong frame with definition in his lower half and shoulders, standing at 5-foot-9, 165 pounds. Behind the plate, he has solid body control with quick, fluid footwork and a quick, clean exchange. He shows good arm strength for his aged, registering pop times in the 1.97-2.11 second range and 74 mph velocity. At the plate, he hits from the right side and starts from a tall stance with flex in his knees and good rhythm. He uses a slow load to rock back and gets into an athletic launch position. He has a compact path and explodes on the ball at contact, using a good weight transfer and loose finish. He has a good presence in the box and drives balls in the gaps with backspin. Banister runs a 7.19 60.
