Team NY Future Games Preview: Pitchers

We're now inside a week away from the biggest event of the year, where the empire state’s top 2025's and 2026's will gather in Atlanta, GA for the 2023 Prep Baseball Report Future Games. It was a hard process to reach this point, narrowing down invites after seeing 450+ players at the annual New York State Games.

Team NY's slate begins the morning of Wednesday, July 26 with a position player showcase. The much anticipated opener is set for the 27th vs. Team Massachusetts before facing off with Team Connecticut on Friday the 28th. Gameplay wraps up the following day at 11:30AM against an always tough Canadian squad.
Below is an in-depth preview of what to expect amongst our finalized pitching rotation.
GAME ONE

Gianni Ricci RHP / OF / La Salle Institute , NY / 2025Rankings StateRank: 9 / POS: 5
INN 1-2. Equipped with longer arms in a physical 6-foot-3, 200-pound frame, Ricci gets the ball to open Game 1. The fastball plays up a couple ticks at the letters (88-90 MPH), utilizing 19 inches IVB with carry/run for strikes. A bigger arm-swing allows for some sharp movement on a mid-70’s CB (2000 rpms) while his future above-average CH kills spin consistently at 76-77MPH; 1368 rpms. It’s a starter’s build with intriguing rawness that projects. |

Brad Curtis RHP / 3B / Shenendehowa, NY / 2025Rankings StateRank: 38 / POS: 10
INN 3. The muscular 6-foot, 218-pounder pitches with toughness and hides the ball on the backside for length. Flashes a quick arm through a medium H ¾ slot that produces a deceptive 84-85, T86MPH fastball. Collected more than 5+ whiffs in his first inning at #NYSGames before we lost track. Mixed a sharp CB/SL combo at 74-76, manipulated around the plate. There’s for the CH too, into the upper-70’s & thrown to his arm-side; bulldog! Note: Curtis will also throw the 1st inning of Game 3.

Steven Bronson LHP / 1B / Beekmantown, NY / 2025Rankings StateRank: 16 / POS: 2
INN 4-5. It’s hard to match the tempo and confidence Bronson brings to the mound at 6-foot-1, 165-pounds. We saw the velocity ceiling a few months ago, up to 87MPH, but the performance at #NYSGames was just as impressive. The southpaw created unhittable run on the ball away from right-handed batters, grabbing a total of (4) Ks. Mixed in a quality 65-66MPH CB w/ two-plane action (multiple freezes) and landed a sinking CH to the bottom. Knows how to set hitters up throughout at-bats with effort left in the delivery.

Lucas Beers RHP / 3B / Monroe-Woodbury, NY / 2025Rankings StateRank: 46 / POS: 12
INN 6-7. There’s plenty to like in terms of presence and arm-talent at 5-foot-11, 165-pounds, not afraid to challenge early with the fastball. Slight cut across the plate to his glove-side at times, up to 86MPH at 2300+ rpms. Gets around the repertoire extremely well, aiding a swing/miss 74-75 SL to get out of the zone chases. Commands a low-70’s CB on a different tilt, as well. Chance to add to the stuff as he gains strength with a flexible torso and aggressive hips. |
GAME TWO

Hudson Cavallo RHP / OF / Arlington, NY / 2025Rankings StateRank: 28 / POS: 8
INN 1-2. One of the louder performances of #NYSGames, Cavallo easily spotted a three-pitch mix to both sides at 6-foot-6, 205-pounds. The tall righty was able to show advanced tilt when needed, but rode the fastball at 85-87, T88MPH for awkward swings above the belt, up to 22 inches IVB. Owned two advanced secondaries in a 73-76MPH CB with +depth and a heavy 75-76 split that dodged barrels. Has been a fast climber in the rising JR class and there are no signs of slowing down any time soon.

Aedan Palmer OF / LHP / Elmira, NY / 2026Rankings StateRank: 28 / POS: 5
INN 3-4. Free and easy with much more to come, the 6-foot-2, 185-pound lefty maintains his line down the slope. Spun hitters into the ground at #NYSGames, pitching into the mid-80’s (T84) with a CB he threw often to make the fastball effective. It’s next level turbo-run to the arm-side, attacking the dead zone with an intentful 70-72MPH CB. Handles himself with a cool/mature presence and slow heart-beat, able to make adjustments from AB to AB. Was just playing catch and the ball was coming out! |

Tyler Johnston RHP / SS / Wilson, NY / 2025Rankings StateRank: 32 / POS: 9
INN 5-6. Some unicorn fastball metrics will allow Johnston to be an interesting name-to-know down south with a 4.6FT release height that routinely sits in the mid-to-upper 80’s (T88). Flashes the makings of elite ride with a -3.5 degree vertical approach angle and mixes a hard lateral 69-70 MPH breaking ball to his glove-side; 13.3 inches HM. Extends over the finish with a full range-of-motion in the lower half. A whippy H ¾ slot varies command at times, which adds to the “funk” at 5-foot-11, 175-pounds. |

Jack Curtis 3B / RHP / Chenango Forks, NY / 2026Rankings StateRank: 5 / POS: 1
INN 7. The closer for Game 2, Curtis features a heavy dose of the curveball, which is his best pitch at 71-74MPH with 2700+ spin. It’s a compact, straight line delivery that works from the ground-up, reaching back for an 85-87 FB for whiffs. Electric hand-speed on all four offerings, including a low-80’s SNK with solid pitch profile. Faced a tough lineup at #NYSGames and limited the damage when mixing the offspeed early in counts. Just starting to understand how good he can be when locating.

Scott Hanson RHP / 2B / Albany Academy, NY / 2025Rankings StateRank: 24 / POS: 6
INN 2-3. A strike-thrower with clean mechanics and feel for the hip-hinge, Hanson executes a mid-80’s fastball down at the knees. There’s natural ability to get ground balls with spin rates while a 72-75MPH SL leverages the throwing window at release. When looking at the arm-swing, it’s easy to see how a faded 77-78 CH becomes his best pitch down the road. The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder is coming off of a big high school season for Albany Academy with another velo spike on the way. |

Micah Hays LHP / 1B / Horseheads, NY / 2025Rankings StateRank: 31 / POS: 5
INN 4-5. Similar to Palmer, Hays will frustrate the opposition with full command of the arsenal and maddening pace. Starts quickly, then slows right before accelerating into footstrike on a low-80’s (T84) fastball. It’s a shorter arm-action that repeats the delivery, though there’s more to be had in the legs. This makes the CH “hit the brakes” out of the hand for swing/miss at 75MPH and his 70-72MPH SL a future above-average offering. The 5-foot-11, 185-pounder is a jump away from dominance.

Conlan Taylor RHP / 3B / Owego Free Academy , NY / 2025Rankings StateRank: 55 / POS: 13
INN 6-7. An eventual bullpen piece with an open landing and violent separation down the mound, Taylor really pronates the ball, up to 20 inch HM. Pushed into the 84-85MPH range at #NYSGames and expanded the plate to glove-side with the CB. Nightmare to face for left-handed hitters, killing the CH heavily for 1380 rpms at 19 inch HM. Changed eye level often across 10 BF and left mostly untouched. Similar frame to other arms that have found success at Lakepoint.
