SCOUTING REPORT
Calloway stands in at 5-foot-10, 150-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Offensively- Lefty sets up square to the pitcher in a narrow stance with his feet inside shoulder width. Shows a vertical body holding his bat in front of the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a knee raise in to a stride forward squaring up with the pitcher while his hands move back slightly to get into his hitting position. Utilizes good lower body rotation clearing his hips and getting whole body frame involved in the swing. Shows quick hands to the zone with an upward lift bat path throughout into a high one-handed finish. Demonstrated line drive ability with potential power in the gaps during batting practice round. Recorded an exit velocity of 77 MPH. Defensively- Good footwork and approach getting underneath the baseball. Shows good crow hop mechanics but could gain more ground on the throw towards the target. Moves well left/right and was accurate on throws. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 73 MPH. Pitching- Sets up on the right side of the rubber with a high leg kick above his hip crease. Good drive down with appropriate separation getting into a good throwing position with a high ¾ release point. Utilizes whole body when throwing and repeats delivery on different pitches. Fastball sat 72-75 MPH and peaked at 78 MPH with good arm side run. Change-up has good arm side sink and sits 62-65 MPH. Curveball shows good 12/6 action and is 68-70 MPH.
THOUGHTS ON THE FUTURE
"The sweet swinging lefty shows a fluid and easy effort stroke that will project at the next level. Comfortable in the box but yet explosive through the zone. Athletic frame that will continue to get stronger as he matures. Simple, repeatable delivery from the stretch with a lower 3/4 arm slot with limited stress will fast forward his development. Measurable statistics don't tell the story right now, as they wouldn't for most 2021 grads...but Calloway can play and is a player to put on the watch list."
