SCOUTING REPORT
Castillo stands in at 5-foot-8, 150-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Ran a 7.09 – 60. Offensively- Righty sets up square to the pitcher in a balanced stance with little movement. Efficient trigger getting hands and lower body set prior to the pitch. Quick hands to the ball with an upward lift barrel action making consistent contact up the middle. Clean, fluid swing that will improve with added strength. Recorded an exit velocity of 74 MPH. Defensively- Shows good footwork and approach to the baseball. Smooth transition from glove hand to the throwing position. Could gain more ground on the throw to get body weight moving towards intended target. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 83 MPH. Pitching- Right gets set in the middle of the rubber using slow tempo movement. Gets into a good position to throw at separation and drives down the mound keeping the front side closed off with a good follow through. High ¾ arm slot that is consistent hitting spots in the strike zone. Fastball was 80-81 MPH and peaked at 81 MPH showing good arm side run. Curveball was 71-72 MPH with a sharp 12/6 break. Change up was 75-76 MPH with little arm side sink. Will need to develop a greater velocity difference off the fastball.
THOUGHTS ON THE FUTURE
"Castillo's biggest asset right now is the ease that his arm works. Showed good carry from the outfield and was able to take it to the mound as well. Already has feel for his change up. Possibly projects better on the mound but too early to tell. At the plate the tools are there and there is another gear that needs to be unlocked. Fundamental approach in the outfield. Will be a player to watch closely to see how he develops. We are excited to have him back for the Preseason - Downstate event in February."
