Name: Nico Limoncelli (2017)
High School: Horseheads
College Commitment: N/A
Position: SS
PBR New York sat down with freshman standout Nico Limoncelli for a question and answer session.
PBR: How did you prepare for the 2014 season knowing you would have to step up and play varsity as a 9th grader?
Limoncelli: I take a lot of pride in the my weight training and I played legion ball all summer long last year to prepare. I also do an extensive baseball fundamental program with my dad. (Jeff Limoncelli, former Boston Red Sox minor leaguer)
PBR: What are your strengths and weaknesses as a player?
Limoncelli: I have worked on my arm strength and have improved my hand quickness over the summer. I also take pride in my hitting the baseball hard and not striking out. My weaknesses are my inconsistency at the plate.
PBR: You are starting varsity as a freshman, how has that experience been so far?
Limoncelli: It was exciting to be put in that high pressure position and I have handled it very well so far.
PBR: Who is the top team you have faced, top player?
Limoncelli: Corning is a great team this year, and Zach Sullivan is the best player I have seen. He is an all around baseball player who is very talented.
PBR: You are coming to an event of ours this coming June, are you excited about the opportunity to work with us?
Limoncelli: I am very, I gives me an opportunity to show college coaches and scouts what I can do on the baseball field.
PBR: You have grown up in an awesome baseball family with your Grampa coaching and working in player development for the Red Sox organization and your dad played in the Red Sox organization, tell us how that experience was?
Limoncelli: I have had the advantage of learning things about the game that a lot of other kids don't get. I don't take my opportunities for granted and I work very hard so I can maximize my true potential.
Buzz on Limoncelli: By Dan Cevette New York Scouting Director
Limoncelli comes from a baseball background, he's got all the right teachers in his corner, and the kid works hard. He has nice quick smooth hands and shows some above average range for a kid his age. His arm is average but is to be expected at 9th grade. He swings from the left side and has a clean pure swing. With his hard work he will continue to grow and tighten up his craft, I expect Limoncelli to be very good in the next few years.
