SCOUTING REPORT
Athletic, projectable frame with lean build. 6-foot, 180-pounds. Offensively – Sets up in a wide stance with tall, upright posture. Uses an athletic weight shift to load on his back side before initiating swing with forward stride. Keeps front side in at landing with head working down to the ball. Quick, compact swing. Barrel stays behind the ball and produces consistent line drive contact. Utilizes core/lower half to generate easy bat speed. Defensively – Mechanically sound set-up behind the plate. Hips sink low with upper body staying upright. Receives ball out front before getting into exchange. Comes out of crouch quickly to redirect feet towards 2b. Clean, compact arm action from ¾ slot. On line but could benefit from more carry.
WHAT DID WE SEE?
"DeLawder had a more fluid approach to his swing in the box. The timing smoothed out with a more controlled leg kick; maintained his short swing with some added whip through the zone. Increased arm strength that will help contribute to taking down his pop time range over the long term. Once his catch-transfer-footwork-release sequence is consistent, expect sub 2.10 numbers."
