By Nathan Rode and PBR Staff
Buffalo announced Monday morning that the athletics department will cut four teams from its program, including baseball. The move is effective at the end of 2017 spring season. Below are reports on recruits committed to Buffalo, plus links to players currently on the roster who have PBR profiles.
Brendan Conley, OF, Worcester Academy, MA
Conley has the ability to play multiple positions. He has solid footwork and arm strength. He can get down the line in 4.2 seconds from the right side. He takes a direct path with life in his bat and he can use the whole field.
Parker Hendershot, 3B, Tioga Central HS, NY
Hendershot stands at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds with a strong, well-proportioned build, broad shoulders and a defined lower half. He has the potential of being a power-hitting third baseman, as he hits from a relaxed stance and athletic set-up. He uses a pronounced leg lift and has rhythm in his hands. He generates advanced bat speed and uses a rotational approach, having the tendency to spin off. When he’s on time, he shows big pull-side juice with lift. The ball jumps off his bat. Defensively, he moves well laterally for his size, shows reliable hands and athleticism in the arm. His throws have online carry at 89 mph across the infield. He runs a 7.12-second 60.
Trevor Henneman, C, Corning HS, NY (2018)
Henneman is a full-bodied backstop at 6 feet, 210 pounds. He has a strong lower half with some upward tilt in his swing path. He stays through the middle of the field and flashes pop to his pull side. Defensively, he has an athletic set-up and is a soft receiver. He has 75 mph arm strength and flashes sub-2.0 pop times.
David Reynoso, SS, Walter Panas HS, NY
Reynoso has an athletic frame at 6 feet, 165 pounds. He runs a 6.9-second 60 and takes a direct path to the ball. His back leg has good torque and the swing is smooth. He has a high finish and has produced an exit velocity up to 89. Defensively, he reads hops well and makes a smooth transfer. He fields the ball out front and throw from a 3/4 slot. He throws 81 across the infield.
John Servello, OF, Hollidaysburg Area HS, PA
Servello runs a 6.88-second 60 and has arm strength from the outfield. That translates to the mound where he can sit 85-88 from a high-3/4 slot and fluid, balanced delivery. He has bat speed at the plate and shows a knack for barreling baseballs.
Hunter Voorhees, RHP, Olentangy Liberty HS, OH
Vorhees stands at 6 feet, 190 pounds. In his latest start, he pitched at 84-87 with his fastball. He starts with a quicker tempo before slowing down at his balance point and creates good momentum toward the plate with his lower half. He pitches out of a high-3/4 slot. His curveball has shown gradual break at 68-69.
Jake Zurat, C, Williamsville North HS, NY
Zurat is an athletic backstop, standing at 6 feet, 210 pounds. He runs well, getting down the line in 4.2-4.4 seconds. He has a quiet load and the bat is clean through the zone with an elevated finish. He receives the ball with strong wrists and shows 75 mph arm strength behind the plate. He has quick feet and hands on his throws to second base.
