Players and prospects from all over the northeast including eight different states made their way to Connecticut for the second annual PBR New England Procase. Last year’s event proved to be the springboard and kick start to 1B Grant LaVigne’s ascension to becoming the 42nd overall pick in the 2018 draft to the Colorado Rockies. This year, 60 players from three different classes (2019-2021) took part in showcasing their skills in a pro-style workout in front of nearly 20 MLB scouts. In the final installment of a three-part On the Hunt segment from the event, 2019 draft-hopefuls take centerstage with a collection of intriguing and standout performances. In front of close to 20 MLB scouts, these prospects showcased their skills as potential follows for the teams throughout the spring.

Chad Knight C / 3B / Staples , CT / 2019

Knight’s powerful right-handed stroke was on full display last summer, as he landed on draft radars throughout the northeast. The Duke recruit has showcased impressive power since he first came on the national radar at the PBR Future Games in 2016. He appeared even more relaxed at the plate throughout his batting practice session with the hands loading comfortably down and back in connection with a knee-knock leg kick, and he did not try to do too much. Positionally, Knight has always appeared destined for first base, but a recent shift behind the plate could present an interesting change to his draft status. He was consistently on the bag with his throws to second base and pop times between 1.94-1.98 that showed carry at 82 mph from a crouch. His receiving skills are still a bit raw with future average potential, but considering how recent his move to the new position is, the improvements that he has made in a short period of time are intriguing enough to make it a possibility moving forward. Overall, Knight’s powerful bat will likely carry him moving forward, but should he exhibit greater ability to stick behind the plate, he could rise up some draft boards this spring.
