Livonia VS Dansville: Game Recap

Dan Cevette

Director, New York

Not much high school baseball action expected for the majority of the state this week due to more than five-inches of snow scattered across much of the state. Looking back to some of the games played last week, we wanted to highlight a couple of small schools in the western side of NY.

Not many people know where Livonia NY is, especially not very many college baseball coaching staffs. Some though, however, do know the tiny area quite well - special thanks to a 5-foot-11, 160-pound lanky left-hander, Reid VanScoter (Binghamton commit). VanScoter has made quite the name for himself, especially over the 2015 summer where colleges started to take notice of the polished southpaw. To start the 2016 spring off, it looks like VanScoter is picking right back up where he left-off.

Last Friday (April 1), Livonia  took the short trip to Dansville NY, on a semi-warm day where the Bulldogs bats kept the day even warmer. The Bulldogs pounded out 12-hits, seven-runs, while only striking out four times. Leading the charge was the athletic 2016 OF Maddox Minton (Livonia) going 2-4 with an RBI. After two lead-off walks to start the 6th-inning, Minton blasted a line-drive double scoring Billy McDevitt from second. Others providing some offensive fire-power were; Billy McDevitt (2-3 with RBI) Ron Loomis (2-4 with RBI) and Brody Metcalf who went 2-4 respectively.

VanScoter had an impressive start using a three-pitch mix, with a low-mid 80's fastball that's located well with late life. On the day he surrendered just three hits while punching out eight Mustang batters.

For the Mustangs Anthony Sackett, Ryan Conklin, and Tommy Linzy each had hits. Holden Schramm took the loss on the mound going three-innings giving up 10 hits, six runs, while striking out a batter.
