Future Games Recap: Middle Infielders
September 4, 2019
Team New York's third year at the Prep Baseball Report Future Games as a full squad yielded some of the best talent so far, including a group middle infielders who really stood out.
Middle Infielders
Marcus Smith SS / OF / All Hallows , NY / 2021Smith oozes athleticism from his 5-foot-10 170 pound frame. Consistently a sub 7.0 runner (6.89) with foot speed that plays in game action. Spread, event setup in the box with quiet pre-pitch actions. Explodes on contact while sitting deep over his backside; line drives that can find the gap with some present pop that will continue to develop. Had tough at-bats early on but during the final day for NJ singled off a 91 MPH FB through the middle and deposited an opposite field HR. Flashed above average hands up the middle with range; accurate arm. Overall athleticism could allow for outfield play over the long term as well.

Michael Sirota SS / OF / The Gunnery, CT / 2021Sirota burst onto the scene breaking into the top 5 infield velocities at 91 MPH across the diamond. The Westchester County resident who stands a wiry 6-foot-1 170 pounds impressed across the board with a 6.65 60 and also posted a 92 MPH exit velocity. At the plate he uses a controlled toe-tap as he shifts his weight back; hands are direct to contact with zone acceleration. Defensively he showed above average glove side range and make the play on the move from both sides of the bag.

Michael Mancini SS / RHP / Maine-Endwell, NY / 2022Mancini is an athletic 5-foot-9 160 pounds who ran a personal best 6.84 60 in Georgia. The LHH hitter grinds out most of his at-bats and can work the ball around the field with ease; tough out who will be a solid table setter. Will hit for average at the next level. Defensively he can handle either side of the bag with no panic; reliant on his steady glove and quick release. Plays the game with a quiet confidence.

Michael Lombardi SS / RHP / Fox Lane, NY / 2022Lombardi, who has added 2 inches to his frame over the past year shaved his 60 down to a personal best 7.27. The RHH works from a slightly open stance with the bat resting on his shoulders; slight barrel tip during his load. Middle of the field approach with line drive results. Defensively the glove plays out in front with clean exchanges and enough arm to stick to the left side of the field; was able to make the play on move. Also took to the mound for an inning working in the 81-83 MPH range with a repeatable delivery. Long term projection could lead to some 3B play as well.
