September 2, 2019
Team New York's third year at the Prep Baseball Report Future Games as a full squad yielded some of the best talent so far, including a group of versatile corner infielders.
Corner Infielders
Chance Checca OF / 3B / Ballston Spa, NY / 2021Strong, physical build at 6-foot-0 190 pounds. Displayed raw power potential in the box to the pull side with some tape measure homeruns during his pregame batting practices. Also listed as an OF, Checca ran a 6.92 60. Open, spread stance with a slight leg kick for timing. Flat path into the zone that creates backspin; present power in the box. Showed plenty of range defensively with adequate arm strength from the left side.

Xander Burch LHP / 1B / Thomas A. Edison, NY / 2021Lean, athletic build at 6-foot-0 160 pounds. At the plate Burch had some grind-it-out type at-bats, fighting off tough pitches and working deep counts. Slightly spread stance; repeats his timing and displayed a short swing path with occasional lift. High contact approach who will hit for average and develop additional pop. Above average movements at 1B around the bag; active feet, glove works out in front with a short arm stroke to start the front end of the double plays. Could project as well as corner outfield with improve foot speed. The LHP had a tough outing on the mound but showed an above average breaking ball with some later action as he worked in the low 80's with his FB.

Ryan Birchard 1B / RHP / Auburn , NY / 2021Well put together 6-foot-0 185 pound LHH with consistent, line drive contact during his batting practices; stays short into the zone with acceleration through contact with a one-handed late release on his extension. Proper footwork; clean hands and plenty of arm from the 1B position. On the verge of having the footspeed to also work in at RF at the next level. Abiilities on the mound could also dictate future as he had a solid appearance working 85-88 MPH vs. Team CT.
