Class of 2024 Inside the Rankings: Top Dogs
January 25, 2022
Each week leading up to our Preseason slate, we'll be rolling out Inside the Rankings articles to further highlight the movement around the ‘24 classes in NY and PA. This week’s focus shifts the scope to “Top Dogs,” a higher ranked uncommitted middle infielder in the state's Sophomore class.
2024 ss/rhp tyler vivacqua (liverpool)
The Spin: Athletic and twitchy with more coming in the frame at 5-foot-9, 140lbs, Vivacqua rolled into the New York State Games in June with additional seasoning, setting numerous personal bests on either side of the ball. A switch-hitter by nature with some top of the order prowess, he generated quick, loose hands in the box, producing easy 24 mph hand speed and a clean extra-base hit approach (329 foot distance). The Liverpool product has proven to be a trusted in-game performer over multiple PBRT’s this past summer, turning the barrel behind the ball with minimal swing/miss (82% on-plane) while using efficient contact points to create advanced plate-coverage (88 mph exit velocity). The primary shortstop continues to progress defensively too, landing a comfortable 82 mph arm strength across the diamond with a plethora of routes in the toolbox, gaining more and more downhill pace at each look. Although there’s still some improvement to be had in the strength department, a 65 mph to 73 mph bat-speed increase from February to June suggests that he can make jumps quicker than most and creates some optimism that 2022 could be a breakout season.
The Performance: 6/28/21, New York State Games | Had his best appearance to date, carrying “top performer” status from the event. Set personal bests in the 60-yard dash (7.55), peak exit velocity (88 mph, L/R), INF arm (82 mph), sweet spot% (45%), max distance (329 feet), rotational acceleration (25 G’s), hand speed (24 mph), and bat speed (73 mph).
‘24 SS Tyler Vivacqua (Canastota) will be a “high follow” in the class. Switch-hitter swung it better from the left (86 EV) w/ early connection in the swing. High level bat to ball skills! @DanCevette @GregWilliamsPBR https://t.co/c5zVyU1JvI pic.twitter.com/J3mCX05yMa
