Class of 2024 Inside the Rankings: Diamonds in the Rough
January 18, 2022
Each week leading up to our Preseason slate, we'll be rolling out Inside the Rankings articles to further highlight the movement around the ‘24 classes in NY and PA. This week’s focus shifts the scope to “Diamonds in the Rough,” prospects who will command a closer look in recruitment.
2024 SS/OF JACK HENNESSEY (MAINE-ENDWELL)
The Spin: A dynamic two-sport athlete with plenty of feel on both sides of the ball, the 5-foot-10, 165-pounder made substantial offensive gains this past summer and projects to maintain success long-term. The Maine-Endwell product sets up loosely with an early leg-lift load, getting the front-foot down on time with an explosive lower half move through the hips, creating some connection at the plate. Increased bat-speeds and angrier intent have been welcomed in the swing, turning a good bat-to-ball hitter into a trustworthy extra-base hit threat. Defensively, the primary shortstop should fit into multiple roles with solid positional flexibility and continued pace from the infield and outfield. Though 7.25 footspeed could certainly come down, a quick first step and natural instincts off the bat play largely in his success, moving down through the ball with urgent momentum.
The Performance: 6/30/21, New York State Games | Produced his best BP round we’ve seen, setting personal bests in exit velocity (92 mph), AVG exit velocity (81 mph), distance (313 feet), sweet spot (58%), bat-speed (74 mph), rotational acceleration (21 G’s), hand-speed (23 mph), and on-plane efficiency (84%).
‘24 SS/OF Jack Hennessey (Maine-Endwell) gets the scoring going in the 16U championship, with an RBI single. Simple approach, quiet stance and finds a pitch he can handle. Quick load, into a flat swing path.
