Class of 2022 Inside the Rankings: Helium Watch

Each week leading up to the new year, we'll be rolling out Inside the Rankings articles to further highlight the movement around the ‘22 classes in NY and PA. This week’s focus shifts the scope to “Helium Watch,” prospects with plenty of momentum and a chance to rise up the rankings.
2022 SS/RHP blaise kolbert (canisius/d'youville)
The Spin: The Canisius product has continuously impressed with in-game confidence and athleticism at 5-foot-11, 170lbs, making three dominant trips to the PBR circuit over the course of the ‘21 calendar year (Preseason All-State West, NYS Games, PBRT). Able to continue improving with lean projection, the sweet-swinging lefty profiles as a solid pairing for D’Youville College in the ‘22 class, recently making the leap from DIII to DII last year and looking for that significant program cornerstone piece. Kolbert has all the makings of a leader in the middle of the diamond with every intangible you could want in a leadoff hitter. Though we’ve been accustomed to the above-average bat to ball skills and grind-it-out at-bats that produce fun, yet productive top of the order results, it's been the newfound bat-speed (74 mph AVG) creating more chances to hit for extra-bases, which happened in droves at the Northeast Summer Championships in August.
The Performance: 8/8/21, Northeast Summer Championships | Recorded a hit in each game played (4GP) including multiple extra-base hits; one of them the loudest barrel of the day on a scorched line drive to the RCF gap.
