May 7 - MAY 13

2018 LHP Brandon Neeck (Horace Greeley / Virginia Commit)
Athletic frame with broad shoulders and a tapered lower half; room for gains especially in the legs. Repeats delivery from a ¾ arm slot; Worked effortlessly in the 89-91 MPH range through 5 innings. Was up to 93 in the 1st and popped two 92 MPH FB in the 5th. Slider at times flashed some razor blade action with late tilt at 79-81 MPH. When working beneath the ball the action was more cutter like or backed up on him at 78 MPH.

2018 RHP Lenny Torres (Beacon / St. John’s Commit)
Athletic, elastic athlete with explosive actions. The RHP dialed it up to 94-95 MPH in the first inning before settling in at 92-94 MPH. At times flashed a sharp, 2-plane slider in the 81-83 MPH range but had trouble repeating in game. Mixed several change ups at 86-87 with some sink; almost a “power change” that acts more like a heavy FB. Mechanically can get upright with his finish along with some cross fire from a closed off stride. Command wavered but has been extremely efficient to date.

2019 OF Nick Lepere (Beacon HS)
Slight, wiry frame for the L/L OF. Hit in the 2-hole for Beacon with a an open stance. Notched 3 doubles in his first 3 at bats. Swing path was much shorter then when at our Winter Open in February. Scrappy player, hard turns out of the box.

2018 RHP Rafael Figuereo (John Jay - East Fishkill / Pace University Commit)
Long and lean RHP who drew the task of matching up vs. Neeck and in front of nearly 30 pro scouts. Sat 81-83 MPH, with a ¾ arm slot, touching 85 MPH early on with a 70-72 MPH CB; action was 11-5 CB with some depth. Works downhill with some arm side run; frame projects with a high ceiling that will be reached at the college level.

2018 1B Steven Schoen (John Jay - East Fishkill / Sacred Heart Commit)
Fully framed L/L 1B with some juice to the pull side; active glove and moves well laterally for size. Tough assignment facing Neeck but showed easy effort at the plate during BP with repeatable swing mechanics.

2019 2B Kyle Cacamisse (John Jay - East Fishkill)
Slick fielding middle infielder who showed some lateral range; turns the double play well with quick exchange. Battled Neeck, slicing a single to LF off a 91 MPH FB.

2019 SS Tommy DiRusso (John Jay-East Fishkill)
Athletic frame; solid glove with accurate arm. Open stance at the plate; knocked a double off of Neeck in his 2nd at-bat. May project better at 2B/3B at the next level but suitable at SS.

2018 OF Carlos Payano (George Washington / New Mexico JC Commit)
One of the more physical frames we’ve come across this spring. The L/L outfielder swings with aggression but keeps it out of the shoulders; has the ability to shorten up and use the whole field as evidenced in his final AB, stroking a RBI single. Plus arm that not only holds it carry but is accurate; two in-game throws to the plate registered 87 MPH and 90 MPH.

2021 RHP Justine Rodriguez (George Washington)
Lean frame with long arms; highly projectable build. Works from a low ¾ slot, sitting 81-84 MPH with a 10-to-4 CB/slurve in the 64-66 MPH range. Showed a change up at 75 MPH. Huge upside, additional velocity gains on the way.

2018 1B German Sepulveda (George Washington)
Physical build; right-handed hitting 1B showed above bat speed with some lift to his pull side. Strong lower half with power potential to his pull side.

2018 OF Darrell Soto (George Washington)
Strong framed corner OF with above average and accurate arm. At the plate he hits from an even stance with an exaggerated lean over the belt. Swing path was short with some bat speed through the zone.

2020 INF Pedro Garcia (George Washington)
Impressive out of the lead-off spot for GW. Athletic with a short swing path; crushed a triple to left-center in his 1st AB off of an 89 MPH fastball but stayed disciplined, grinding out two walks after that. Currently hitting .480 in PSAL play.

2018 RHP Leury Tejada (Walton Campus/ New Mexico JC Commit)
Long and lean RHP with an easy effort, low ¾ arm slot. Sat 87-89 MPH for the majority of the game, touching a couple 90 MPH and one 91 MPH FB early on. Overthrowing slider early in game but after a lengthy injury delay he settled in with a late breaking, tilting slider at 78-79 MPH. Frame and arm action easily can support additional velocity. Showed some bat speed at the plate; collected a SAC fly and and single.

2018 RHP Juan Vasquez (Walton Campus)
RHP with an athletic build; worked 79-81 MPH with an 11-5 CB at 66-67 MPH. Fastball mostly of the 2-seam/sinker variety; stayed down in the zone. Collected a handful of punchouts against a strong George Washington lineup.

2019 OF Fraini Tejada (Walton Campus)
Exceptional athlete; 2-slot hitter for Walton. Even stance with a balanced approach; put together several quality at-bats without much to show for it. Player to follow up on not only positionally but on the mound.

2018 OF Jean Morillo (Walton Campus)
6-foot-1 range; even setup at the plate; works deep counts. Drew 2 walks and a single while swiping a bag. Another frontline athlete to follow up on.

2019 INF/RHP Luke Gold (Ballston Spa / Boston College Commit)
Sets up with his feet wider than shoulder width and strong  bottom half. Controlled, quick hands with a good bat path. Didn’t have much success at the plate on this day but faced another D1 commit in Brendan Disonell (Stony Brook).  Appeared on the bump in relief and threw a credible 3+ innings, striking out three and showing a tight breaking ball. Next level player with a lot of talent.

2019 RHP Brendan Disonell (Shenendehowa / Stony Brook Commit)
5-foot-11, 155 pound RHP is poised and in command on the mound.  Doesn’t overwhelm you with his fastball (sits 80-82 MPH), but has a wipe-out slider and above average change.  Recorded 13 k’s and a NO HITTER versus Ballston Spa.  Back to back complete games with 26 punchouts in 14 IP.

2018 LHP Jack Mahoney (Shaker/Stony Brook)
Went 3 for 4 at the plate.  Didn’t get to see Mahoney on the hill, but he helped the Bison cause by recording three hits from the middle of the order.

2018 1B Matt Bishop (Shenendehowa)
6-foot-0, 210 pound RHH 1B, Bishop has been a run producer for the Plainsmen.  HR versus Ballston Spa and 2 for 4 versus Shaker. Powerful right handed hitter with balanced approach at the plate. Handles the breaking ball well and shows power to both gaps.

We got our third look of the season at Dirado versus Union Endicott and he did not disappoint.  Dirado pitched 6 innings of scoreless baseball, throwing 107 pitches - 72 for strikes, and yielding 2 hits with 14 K, and 4 BB. He used his fastball, change-up, and slider regularly, with the slider being especially effective.  Only one Tiger batter put the bat on his slider on this day. Velos were 84 to 86 on his FB topping out at 87. His changeup was at 76-77 and slider at 75.

2019 RHP Kyle Taborne (Vestal)
In his last outing of the regular season, Taborne scatter 4 hits through 5 innings with 8s and 2 BBs. He threw 82 pitches with 51 for strikes.  He kept the ball down the entire game with his fastball being his most effective pitch on this day.

From his leadoff position in the lineup, this week Kerley was 5  for 11, 2B, 3B, 2 HR, 4 R, 5 RBI, and 2 K.
