Las Vegas Preseason ID: Quick Hits (Upperclass Prospects)

Brett Harrison
West Coast Supervisor

On Wednesday, January 24th, the PBR Nevada staff hosted it's first event of the year with the Las Vegas Preseason ID. This event featured a ton of uncommitted talent among the 76 players in attendance, including several unsigned seniors who should be on the radar of college coaches as the 2024 class continues roll off the board.

Like all of our events, players participated in a pro-style workout in front of our staff and collected unrivaled data in the process through our top-of-the-line tech partners. These events also serve as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Nevada State Games, Future Games, Jr. Future Games, West Coast Games, West Coast Pro Case and more.

Now, at the event’s conclusion, our staff has combed through our notes from the day and put together these ‘Quick Hits’. Below you will learn more about a handful of Upperclassmen that stood out from the Las Vegas Preseason ID, with a stacked Underclass Quick Hits coming out tomorrow.

Las Vegas Preseason ID: Quick Hits

Bryden Bull OF / 1B / Las Vegas, NV / 2025

Coming off a huge Summer campaign, the recent Ole Miss commit continued on that path at the Las Vegas Preseason ID where once he got settled into the batting practice session, he showed off his real, present power that was full display. The present size/build combined with advanced athleticism has helped ascend Bull as not only one of the top prospects in Nevada, regardless of class, but one of the top prospects in the West Region.

Alexander Mercurius SS / OF / Durango, NV / 2025

Nevada’s top ranked, uncommitted prospect showed off his present tools at the Las Vegas Preseason ID, holding off on pitching, but showing advanced action both in the field and at the plate. A liner drive producer, Mercurius also has the ability to leave the yard with present pull side power. Arguably his most intriguing tool is the advanced, present arm talent he showed off during the infield evaluations where he earned an event best 92 mph Infield Velocity. This is a prospect that we expect to be off the board in the very near future with interest peaking as he enters his junior campaign.

Jordan Watkins RHP / 2B / Faith Lutheran, NV / 2025

Watkin has steadily continued to climb his way into the discussion of the prospects still available in Nevada’s 2025 Class. His 97.5 mph TrackMan Exit Velocity verifies the work he has put in to add physical strength and size to his 6-foot-1, 195 pound frame paired his ability to elevate the ball with authority, this is a player with an advanced hit tool that seems to only be scratching the surface. Keep an eye out for Watkins as one of the next few players off the board out of Nevada.

Christian Gross OF / RHP / Faith Lutheran, NV / 2024

Gross has drummed up a ton of interest over the past few months with his game now taking the next step to prove he can consistently play at a high level. The Future Games and West Coast Games alum showed off his advanced approach at the plate helping him live in the big part of the yard with power potential now turned into present power. The #7 ranked prospect in Nevada’s 2024 Class has also started to show he can get it done on the mound as well, topping out at 88.8 mph with more in the tank. The present arm strength (95 mph OF Velo) and athleticism leads you to believe that he is only scratching the surface of his potential on the mound.

Joseph Ponticello 3B / RHP / Las Vegas, NV / 2025

The Las Vegas High School product has made a name for himself over the past 6 months, sprouting to 6-foot-4 with a lean frame that still has plenty of room to fill out with his velocity on the mound and exit velocity both expected to mirror those physical gains. The actions are there on both sides of the ball for Ponticello, but the comfort on the mound makes him an even more intriguing pitching prospect with present looseness in the arm, running it up to 88.8 mph with some life and a curveball the spun up to 2619 rpm and averaged at 2574 rpm. Keep this one on your radar as he projects to have a huge Spring on both sides of the ball for the Wildcats.

Jayson Schmeisser OF / Sierra Vista, NV / 2024

The unsigned Senior had himself a day at the Las Vegas Preseason ID. His overall game has mirrored his physical development, now at an athletic 5-foot-10, 175 pound, his key metrics rank him near the top of almost every metric category that pertained to him. The Sierra Vista product produced a 97.4 mph TrackMan Exit Velocity with his efficient, compact swing that produced consistent barrels throughout his round. Defensively, he ranked 2nd in Outfield Velocity at 88 mph and that paired with his athleticism would allow him to hold down any outfield spot at the next level.

Tyler Jackson C / OF / Centennial HS, NV / 2025

An under the radar prospect that continues to produce at a high level each time out with us, Jackson continued to do so at the Las Vegas Preseason ID. At 6-foot-4, he still possesses plenty of room to add size and strength to his frame that should only add to the high level metrics he has produced. Lead the event in both Peak Exit Velocity at 100.0 mph and Average Exit Velocity at 92.2 mph, his present power to all fields was on full display with more expected to come down the road. Splitting time between catcher and outfield, his future may be as a corner outfielder with his present size and additional size to come. This is player keep on your radar heading into the Spring as a break out candidate out of Centennial.

Connor Rosinski C / OF / Palo Verde, NV / 2024

An under the radar senior that showed improvements in each part of his at the Las Vegas Preseason ID, producing the event's best pop time at 1.96 then putting together a line drive filled batting practice session. His physical development has helped his game continue to improve on both sides of the ball and this is a guys that we project is just now scratching the surface of what is to come with swing/approach that will translate to the next level. The Palo Verde product could be a difference maker the Panthers in a season where they could make some noise with a D1 stacked roster.
