Game Notes: (#4) Las Vegas at (#10) Desert Oasis
March 20, 2024
Yesterday's Top 10 matchup featured #10 ranked Desert Oasis taking on arguably the hottest team in the state in the #4 ranked, Las Vegas Wildcats. The Vegas ace and one of the top Uncommitted arms in the 2025 Class, Joseph Ponticello, stood tall during his 5.0 IP, running it up to 89 mph with heavier reliance on his slider that proved effective throughout, consistently missing barrels. The DO bat that took, arguably, the best swings in yesterday's contest was Uncommitted 2026 infielder, Lincoln Guillermo, who opened up the hitting in the first with a standup double to LCF, and continued to get quality swings in in each of his next three at-bats. Ole Miss commit and #3 ranked 2025, Bryden Bull, had himself a day at the plate with a simplified swing that came in clutch multiple times, bringing in 3 runs to go with two hit that included an opposite field double that broke it open in the 5th. Then, 6-foot-3 sophomore, Mickey Martinez, came into close out the last two innings, striking out the side in the 6th and working through a scoreless 7th with his FB/SL mix that ran up to 86 mph with much more in the tank.

The 6’3 Junior’s stock has continued to rise over the past 6 months as he gets settled in in the 2nd with his FB up to 89 mph and these two SL variations #BeSeen@ShooterHunt | @PrepBaseballNV pic.twitter.com/zONOGOGx7H
+ Joseph Ponticello, 2025 RHP/IF - The 6-foot-3 right hander has seen his stock continue to rise over the past year with obvious physical development to go with added strength that has translated well on the field. Ponticello helped lead the undefeated Wildcats to their 12th win of the season with a strong 5.0 inning effort that saw his fastball run up to 89 mph with his slider used with confidence throughout, showing his ability to use it to pitch guys backwards as well as a strikeout pitch when needed. This is a player that we expect to be off the board in the near future with the current buzz surrounding him.

+ Bryden Bull, 2025 OF - The recent Ole Miss commit continues his hot start to his junior campaign with another multi-hit game, using a seemingly more simplified swing that opened up his ability to use all fields. His present physicality has proven to translate on the field this Spring with power continuing to be on display and now his ability to use all fields is starting to shine through, proving he is one of the top bats in the state, regardless of class. With his collegiate destination locked in, keep an eye on Bull as a player who will drum up MLB Draft talks over the next year.

The Diamondbacks answer back in the bottom of the first, bringing one across as the uncommitted senior shoots a single through the right side to keep the line moving #BeSeen@prepbaseball | @ShooterHunt pic.twitter.com/YR9tLkRFPn
+ Noah Griffith, 2024 OF - The physical senior produced some of the best at-bats for Desert Oasis in yesterday's matchup against the Vegas ace, going 2-4 with a his ability to use all fields on full display. A staple in the heart of the DO lineup, Griffith has been a difficult out all year for a Diamondback lineup that is still looking to catch their stride. This a prospect that we project to be able to make an early impact at the next level and is one of the better bats still on the board in the 2024 Class.

The lean, 6’3 right hander comes in relief in the 6th and strikes out this side with this FB/CB mix, running it up to 86 mph with low effort and much more seemingly in the tank #BeSeen@PrepBaseballNV | @ShooterHunt pic.twitter.com/QOB52qbKhm
+ Mickey Martinez, 2026 RHP/IF - The Under the Radar right hander impressed in his two innings of relief, striking out the side in his first IP then working a scoreless second IP to secure the win for Vegas. At a lean 6-foot-3, his low effort delivery saw him run it up to 86 mph with a breaking ball that flashed tighter action, tunneling off his fastball with the ability to throw consistently for strikes. Martinez has the present looseness in his arm that helps create life on his two pitches and we projected significant velocity jumps to come as he fills out his frame.
