Fall Campus Tour - UNLV: Positional Data Dive

On Saturday, November 9th, the Prep Baseball Nevada staff hosted it's final showcase of the 2024 season with the Campus Fall Tour - UNLV hosted on the campus of the University of Nevada - Las Vegas at Earl E. Wilson Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. This event featured just a dozen players from the Las Vegas area but it was a strong, talented group that are all still uncommitted.

We had prospects in the 2025 - 2027 classes with all players running through a full workout alongside our tech partners TrackMan, Blast Motion, VALD Performance and Physical/Athletic Testing. Fall ID/Campus Tour Events serve as one final chance for players to showcase their gains and development over the past year before baseball slows down to close out 2024.

Now, we will take a further in-depth look at the top position players and metrics with the help of our tech partnerships, broken down by the categories down below:

TRACKMAN

EXIT VELOCITY (MAX)

Exit Velocity – This metric measures the speed of the ball off the bat, measured in miles per hour (MPH).

EXIT VELOCITY (AVG.)

BATTED BALL DISTANCE (MAX)

Distance – This metric measures how far the ball traveled, or would travel if it was not obstructed, measured in feet.

BATTED BALL DISTANCE (AVG.)

HARD HIT %

Hard Hit % - Percentage of batted balls with an exit velocity of 90 MPH or higher.

SWEET SPOT %

Sweet Spot % - This metric is determined by how often the player produces a batted ball during the session with a launch angle between 8 to 32 degrees.

BLAST MOTION

HAND SPEED (MAX)

Hand Speed – The speed of the handle of the bat just before impact, measured in MPH. The handle is measured 6 inches from the knob of the bat.

MLB Avg: 23-29mph   MiLB Avg: 22-28mph   College Avg: 21-24mph

BAT SPEED (MAX)

Bat Speed – The speed of the sweet spot of the bat at impact, measured in MPH. The sweet spot is measured 6 inches from the tip of the bat.

MLB Avg: 66-78mph   MiLB Avg: 63-75mph   College Avg: 66-75mph

ROTATIONAL ACCELERATION (MAX)

Rotational Acceleration – A measure of how quickly the hitter gets from launch position to being on plane. This is measured in G-Force (g).

MLB Avg: 16.8g   MiLB Avg: 12.6g   College Avg: 12.9g
