Uncommitted Spotlight: 2022 C Dallin Smith

Brett Harrison
Nevada Scouting Director

The 2021 and 2022 classes has received the brunt of the recruiting restrictions created by the Covid-19 virus with a higher volume of projectable, uncommitted players heading into their junior than ever before. Nevada is no different with the unusual wealth of talent still available throughout the state and we will now be spotlighting players throughout the Scout Day Season that you can look out for in upcoming PBR events.

Coronado product, Dallin Smith, comes into the Golden Spikes Scout Day as the #3 ranked catcher in the 2022 class. His receiving continues to improve behind the plate with the help of additional strength in his forearms and hands with a PBR Verified Pop Time that hovered just about the 2.00 mark at the Nevada Top Prospect event last summer. Along with his ability behind the plate, the 6-foot-0, 180 pound uncommitted prospect also flashed his ability to play first base with clean footwork around the bag, presenting a quality target. His ability at the plate is what we are most excited about as Smith can swing it from both sides of the plate, with his left hand side seeming like more of his natural side, the switch hitter has mirrored power potential especially to the pull side evident by his 93 mph Exit Velocity via TrackMan. The Blast Metrics posted at the Nevada Top Prospect event also prove his swing will translate to the next level as he posted a 22.2 mph Max Hand Speed and a 69.9 mph Bat Speed that can be attributed to his improved physicality. This an interesting prospect that's game has continued to improve over the past year and we expect him to have a big day at the Golden Spike Scout Day tomorrow afternoon.
