The Rawlings Tigers Scout Day in the books, we now take a look back at the standouts from yesterday's event. The Scout Day included a Pro-Style Workout where players ran a Laser Timed 60 Yard Dash, took a Batting Practice, Catcher Pop Times/Velocity, Outfield Evaluations/Velocity and Infield Evaluation/Velocity concluding with Pitches Bullpens. This was an exclusive event for players in the Rawlings Tigers program to highlight current players as well as a spotlight on the current state of the program itself.

Nick Yu / SS/C / 2024

The freshman stood out at the Rawlings Tigers Scout Day with confident actions throughout his game with a compact, developing frame that has present twitch on both sides of the ball. At the plate, he has a simple approach that stayed mostly gap to gap with flashes of power potential, especially to the pull side. On the defensive side of the ball he posted an event best 1.96 Pop Time with quickness in his feet and short arm cycle that got the ball out efficiently. At shortstop, he showed some slightly rushed actions that could be attributed to the environment, but slowing himself down and gaining control through the fielding process is going help him significantly. Yu came into the event with a ton of praise from the Rawlings Tigers staff and he did not disappoint. This is a prospect who will be strongly considered to represent Nevada at the 2021 Future Games.

Andrew Kaplan / 3B/RHP / 2024

Kaplan came into the Scout Day as a relative unknown, but may have had one of the best overall days at the event. His infield actions suit the corner infield position with some limitations in his lateral range, but maintained fluid actioned the the balls within his range. His batting practice round showcases his ability to consistently find the barrel producing line drive after line drive to the middle of the field with power expected to come as he continues to develop physically. The repeatable swing at the plate was one of the biggest separators for Kaplan with a simple set up and an efficient hand path that projects to play well at the next level.

Bryce Ferrer-Leo / LHP/1B / 2023

The lean, 6-foot-2 lefty-lefty is another interesting player that announced his presence at the Rawlings Tigers Showcase with his flashes of pull side power at the plate paired with projectable four pitch mix on the mound. During the offensive evaluations, he the Tigers started off on the right foot with a loud round as he drove the ball repeatedly to the left-center gap. Defensively, he showed his versatility with clean actions in the outfield and infield with feel around the bat at first base. On the mound, his arm cycle tends to shorten up compare to the long arm circle he showed during the defensive portion of the event which leave his velocity on the bump the opportunity to improve significantly. He showed feel for his four pitch mix with an ability to locate each pitch in the zone, but his future may lie in the field with the projectability in his bat.
