Huskies hold off Raiders.

SPARKS, NV – After stumbling last Saturday, the Reno Huskies traveled to Sparks to take on the Reed Raiders.  Coach Levi Matherly has the Raiders competing hard and they were looking to upset yet another division leader.  In recent weeks, the Raiders have delivered some blows to perennial division elite, beating Bishop Manogue (5-3) and Damonte Ranch (4-3). The Reed skipper is working hard to establish a winning tradition and it is evident on the field as well as off. Facility improvements are evident, and the players never stop competing.

The Huskies captured an early lead and ’20 Caedon Kottinger made it standup. Kottinger delivered a complete game effort striking out nine without allowing a walk.  He scattered five hits and allowed one earned run. Offensively, Reno’s ’20 Gunner Gouldsmith, ’19 Cade Grogan, and ’20 Kyle Fermoile each had 2 RBI.

The Huskies improved to 13-1 (25-3) and lead division play, while the Raiders fall to 8-6 (14-11). The Raiders are currently in 4th place.

'20 Caedon Kottinger, RHP (Reno)

Sturdy, 6-foot 160, Kottinger has room to add weight and strength. He pitched comfortably with his fastball at 83-84 for the duration of the complete game effort. His curveball ranged 67-72 and his changeup 72-75. He took advantage of a generous strike zone, consistently getting to his glove side with his fastball and expanding the strike zone. Kottinger is presently command over stuff but it is easy to see a mid to upper 80's pitchability right-hander with a competitive spirit who knows how to win.
