PBR ProCase West - Ethan Clauss

Nick Rupp
Nevada Scouting Director

The PBR ProCase - West was an Invite Only event for the top draft prospect in California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah’s 2024 and 2025 Classes that will feature a Pro-Style Workout with Live Game Play to follow at the University of Southern California on Sunday, June 4, 2023. This event will serve as the final identifier for the inaugural 2023 PBR All-American Game where the top 2024 and 2025 prospects from around the country will go head to head in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at American Family Field.

This event featured the complete Prep Baseball Report Tech Package that includes a Vizual Edge assessment, TrackMan Pitching / Hitting Analysis and Blast Motion In-Swing Analysis. The technology used at the PBR ProCase - West parallels the technology used by professional teams to monitor and evaluation performance within their own organizations and has become a streamlining feature in the evaluation of amateur athletes compared to players currently in their system.

We continue our PBR ProCase Highlight series with Nevada's #1 ranked 2025 and Texas A&M commit, Ethan Clauss

Scouting Report

6/04/23

Ethan Clauss, Palo Verde (NV), 2025 Texas A&M
Positional Profile: SS/2B The top ranked 2025 in Nevada with present tools that seem to just now be scratching the surface of what is to come.
Body: 6-1, 170-pounds. Lean, athletic build. Twitchiness is starting to shine through and is present in both his offensive and defensive games. Plenty of room to add strength with power expected to mirror that added physicality.
Hit: RHH. Athletic, squared set up. Subtle hand rhythm. Sinks back into load with slight coil in his upper half. Compact, effecient path to the ball. Low effort, consistent swing with feel to the big part of the yard and flashes of power to the pull side. High, two handed finish with balance throughout. In-game produced a QAB with advanced understanding of the strike zone.
Power: 91 max exit velocity, averaged 84 mph. 335' max distance.
Arm: LH. INF-82 mph. Short, quick arm cycle. Produces easy carry. Showed his ablity to change arm angles to maintain fluidity through the field/throw process. Projected size and strength gains will keep him on the left side of the infield.
Defense: Improved lateral range with increased foot speed. Feet work well through the ball. Feel for the plays outside his feet. Advances actions throughout that should keep him at shortstop at the next level.
Vizual Edge: 72.91 Edge Score
