NSA Scout Day: Quick Hits
February 12, 2021
The Nevada Sports Academy Scout Day in the books, we now take a look back at the standouts from yesterday's event. The Scout Day included a Pro-Style Workout where players ran a Laser Timed 60 Yard Dash, took a Batting Practice, Catcher Pop Times/Velocity, Outfield Evaluations/Velocity and Infield Evaluation/Velocity concluding with Pitches Bullpens. This was an exclusive event for players in the NSA program to highlight current players as well as a spotlight on the current state of the program itself.

Conner Meldrim / Coronado / RHP / 2022
An Under the Radar arm in the 2022 class, right hander Conner Meldrim threw the day's most impressive bullpen with his three pitch mix coming out of a loose, low three quarter arm slot relying on a mostly athletic delivery, their may be more velocity in the tank. He sat in the mid 80's throughout his bullpen, running it up to 86 mph with natural sink and some arm side action living mostly in the zone. He showed comfort in his changeup that flashed depth and present arm side action ranging from 74-76 mph. His is developing consistency with breaking ball that lived between 70-75 mph that sometimes had sweeping actions and other times had back up action. The arm action and action on each of his pitches make him into a projectable arm that could see velocity increase in the next year as he adds more physicality to his frame.

Kanon Welbourne / Boulder City / C/RHP / 2023
Welbourne is a interesting small school prospect who worked out behind the plate on Day 1 of the two day event, posting a 2.02 Pop Time with each of his throws around the bag. But, he caught the attention of the PBR Staff on Day 2 when he toed the rubber, standing at a lean 6-foot-2 he showcased four developing pitches with his fastball topping out at 83 mph. His slow, rhythmic delivery still has raw features with very little use of the lower half, relying mostly on his arm speed adding to his projection on the mound where his future may be. This is a player we will be keeping an eye on over the next few years as he could make some significant jumps with a few mechanical tweaks.

Nick Morrison / Coronado / MIF/OF / 2023
Morrison is an athletic utility type player with promising actions at multiple positions around the field with present foot speed that projects to continue improving and should allow him to stay in the middle infield. He followed up his defensive showing with some of the top batting practice rounds of the event with a simple heal lift, coiled load into an efficient hand path, finding the barrel throughout his line drive filled round. He registered an 84 mph Raw Exit Velocity that projects to increase over the next few years and add the power tool to his game.

Preston Joncich / Coronado / OF / 2022
Joncich lead the Nevada Sports Academy Scout Day with an event and personal best 6.86 Laser Timed 60. The 5-foot-11, 160 pound junior uses his speed to amplify each part of his game especially in the outfield where he got himself online with his target, working through the ball with clean footwork that lead into accurate throws at 76 mph. This is a player who continues to progress on the field, improving on almost all of his metrics at the NSA Scout Day from previous Prep Baseball Report events.
