Las Vegas Scout Ball

Marshall Gouldsmith
Dodgers vs. Rockies

For the past few years, Dodger Manager, Burlin Germany has picked up for long-time Cardinals Area Supervisor, Manny Guerra.  Affectionately known, Manny was a staple in valley baseball for more than 50 years.  His recent passing will leave a huge void in the baseball community. Manny was revered and his scout teams attracted many college coaches to the valley to evaluate the area’s top talent.  Manny will be missed dearly and his contributions to Las Vegas baseball will be unparalleled.

Manny’s legacy lives on.  Fall Scout Ball well underway in Las Vegas, recent action saw the Las Vegas Dodgers host Mark, Gustafson and his Colorado Rockies Scout Team.  The two day, 28 inning affair was bit much for the pitching on both sides.  Nevertheless, there were some solid performances.

Jesse Pierce, 3B, Arbor View, (2019)

Arkansas commit, 6-foot-3, 175. Pierce has an evenly proportioned athletic frame that will hold weight and strength gains.  He showed good glove skills fielding “shots” at the hot corner as well as making diving plays.  Pierce has a good arm and threw well on the run.  In addition, he had a feel for touch throws to start potential double plays.  Pierce displayed a balanced, centered stance with an aggressive swing and a whippy barrel, highlighted by a homerun to LF.

Brennan Holligan, RHP, Arbor View, (2019)

College of Southern Nevada commit, 6-foot-4, 195. Holligan looks the part.  He possesses the prototypical pitcher’s frame, long levers, wide shoulders with plenty of room to add weight and strength. Holligan has a repeatable delivery, out of a high ¾ slot, he pitched 83-85 mph, touching 86. He sat comfortably at 84. He flashed a breaking ball with good shape and occasional tight spin, 74-75.  Most intriguing was his feel for the changeup, 75-76.  His changeup has the potential to be a plus pitch down the line with some arm speed improvement.  With consistent area control he breezed through his work. He showed athleticism fielding comebackers and with his footwork on picks. A high risk, high reward type player, the Coyotes landed a good one.

Bryce Robison, RHP, Palo Verde, (2019)

Brigham Young commit, 6-foot-1, 170, Robison has an athletic build.  With a feel to pitch, he threw from a high ¾ slot at 86-88, touching 89.  He repeated a solid delivery, changing speeds on his breaking ball, ranging 66-72. A limited look, Robison made quick work of the Rockies scout team but his athleticism was revealed as he ran around in the outfield and took his at bats.  An obvious strike-thrower, Robison will be ready to eat innings straight away for the Cougars.
