Golden Spikes Scout Day: Quick Hits
February 5, 2021
The Golden Spikes Scout Day in the books, we now take a look back at the standouts from yesterday's event. The Scout Day included a Pro-Style Workout where players ran a Laser Timed 60 Yard Dash, took a Batting Practice, Catcher Pop Times/Velocity, Outfield Evaluations/Velocity and Infield Evaluation/Velocity concluding with Pitches Bullpens. This was an exclusive event for players in the Golden Spikes program to highlight current players as well as a spotlight on the current state of the program itself.

#3 ranked 2022 C, Dallin Smith (@DallinSmith_2), got things started off with a pair of line drive filled rounds to the big part of the yard following it up with a 1.96 Pop Time with each of his throws around the tag zone #BeSeen @PBR_Uncommitted pic.twitter.com/bWT1kcR7LK
A more physical Dallin Smith announced his presence early at the Golden Spikes Scout Day with a pair of solid batting practice rounds, one from the left side and one from the right side. He drove the ball to he big part of the yard with some pull side power during his left handed round, then showed more of an inside out approach on the ride side with most of the balls he squared up being driven to right center field. Behind the plate, Smith looked like his added some quickness that was evident by improved footwork on his throws down to second where he posted a personal best 1.96 Pop Time. The current #3 ranked catcher continues to improve his game and should find his name on more than a few radars heading into the spring.

2022 @PBR_Uncommitted MIF, Sebastian Lopez (@sebastian1opezz), showed a more physical build and used an inside-out type swing to stay in the big part of the yard with flashes of power potential #BeSeen pic.twitter.com/lgntRcvEQJ
Fresh off of his standout performance at the Area Code ID Series, Sebastian Lopez continued to prove why he is deserving of the tag "prospect". Additional physical strength, especially in his upper half, over the last year has seen his game take make significant strides. His inside-out swing allowed him to stay mostly in the big part of the yard with some flashes of power potential after posting a PBR Verified 92 mph Exit Velocity via TrackMan at the Area Code ID Series. Defensively, his actions have smoothened out over the past few months with visible increase in his lateral range with a low 80's arm across the diamond that should keep him on the left side of the infield.

2021 @PBR_Uncommitted RHP, Ian Roemer (@IanRoemer), showcased his three pitch mix with a low effort delivery during his bullpen #BeSeen
FB: 81-83 mph, some arm side life
CB: 66-67 mph, 11/5 shape with some back up
CH: 76-78 mph, some sink and fade pic.twitter.com/8EWpADsh3c
Ian Roemer is an under the radar, 6-foot-3 right hander that toed the rubber at the Golden Spikes Scout Day and threw a clean bullpen that used a low/no effort delivery, making you think their may be a whole lot more in the tank, velocity wise, as he continues to add strength and gains an understanding on how to incorporate his lower half. Although his velocity does not jump off the paper with his fastball topping out at 83 mph, the feel and ability to repeat his arm action on each pitch shows that he has feel for each of his three pitches that includes a changeup and breaking ball. Roemer is raw arm that could have significant upside with his length and looseness paired with his minimal effort throughout his delivery.

2021 @PBR_Uncommitted 1B, Chris Cascardo (@ChrisCascardo), sprayed the ball all over the yard in a mature round of batting practice that flashes some pull side power #BeSeen pic.twitter.com/JV6cY6TIKf
Their was no surprise that Cascardo turned in one of the top batting practice rounds of the day with his mature approach allowing him to roll with each pitch, spraying the ball all over the yard with some flashes of pull side power. His short, compact stroke from the left side has worked everywhere he has played and has been a staple in the heart of the Golden Spikes order during he summer and Coronado lineup during the Spring. This is another bat in the Golden Spikes system that could make an impact for someone at the next level and looks to continue proving that over the coming months.
