PBR Nevada will be covering multiple games a week, bringing to you: game recaps, player spotlights, and updated power rankings.

GAME RECAP

BISHOP GORMAN (7) - BASIC ACADEMY (6)

There was no shortage of energy in the opening game of the regular season with the #1 and #2 ranked teams squaring off in what could be a State Championship preview. Things got started early with 2 run top of the first with #1 ranked 2024, Ty Southisene, leading it off with a single, eventually scoring on UNLV signee, Chase Ditmar's RBI single, ultimately going up 2-0. The Gaels answered quickly with a three spot in the bottom half with LSU signee and the state's top MLB Draft Prospect shooting a single to left field on the first pitch he saw. After already putting up one run to cut into the Basic lead, rising, Uncommitted 2023 OF/IF, Billy Scaldeferri, singled to right field to bring a two and take the lead. The bottom half of the second saw the most action of the game with a clutch, bases clearing double off the left-centerfield wall by power hitting, Uncommitted 2023, Easton Shelton, putting Gorman up 6-2 after two complete. Basic continued to answer each time Gorman added on with one in the 3rd and one in the 5th, making it 7-4 after 5 complete. In the 6th, the Wolves got a huge 2 RBI double down the right field line by 2023 IF/RHP and Oregon Commit, Cooper Sheff, bringing the score to 7-6. The Gaels brought in closer, Georgia Tech signee, Demitri Diamant, who was coming off a 4 for 4 performance at the plate to shut down the late rally, then worked through a tense, scoreless top of the 7th to seal the victory for Gorman, as the #2 ranked team takes down #1 and earning the first Player of the Game honors of the 2022 Season.
