Semifinals

LAS VEGAS, NV – Sunday at Desert Oasis HIgh School, Desert Oasis hosted the Centennial Bulldogs in the first of two semifinal games. The second game would feature Arbor View and Liberty.  Desert Oasis starter, Aaron Roberts struggled with command, walking five. Combined with Roberts, the D’back pitching staff would walk 12 in three innings and force them to chase a considerable lead mounted by the Bulldogs.  The Centennial offense would capitalize on the numerous free passes. Sophomore starting pitch, Sam Simon, would help his own cause with a double and 4 RBI. Senior, Kris Bow would collect two as well for the Bulldogs. In spite of staking Centennial to a 10-2 lead, the D’back would battle back, cutting into the lead scoring in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.  Aaron Roberts and '21 Jacob Walsh both homered for the D’backs.  Ultimately, the game would be called after six innings due time constraints.

Championship Game

Arbor View would defeat Liberty in the other semi-final game and thus force a meeting between Arbor View and Centennial in the Championship. The Bulldog offense continued to produce, jumping out to a 7-run lead after 3 innings.  Senior Bulldogs, Kris Bow and Austin Kryszczuk homered in the second and third innings respectively.  The Aggies of Arbor View would scratch their way back into the game with four Aggie hitters collecting multiple hits.  The top of the Aggie lineup, Nick Cornman, Niles Scafati, and Jesse Pierce as well as Justin Hausner had two hits, with Arbor View totaling 9 hits. The final three Aggie pitchers held the Bulldogs to just one run over the final 5.1 innings, giving Arbor View a chance; however, the initial onslaught would be too much to overcome and the Bulldogs would hold on to win The Desert Oasis Kickoff.

Bengal Bash

Game Notes:

Across town, the Bonanza Bengals hosted the Silverado Skyhawks in a double header. The Skyhawks would sweep the Bengals, allowing just 7 hits in 14 innings, 5 of which came off the bat of Bengal Julian DeLeon. Skyhawks starter, Austin Whitaker went 5 innings with 5 strikeouts and no walks. Whitaker also helped his own cause with 2 hits. In the other game, Jared Nixon and Ryeant Horacek combined for the two-hit shutout. One Skyhawk hitter that caught the eye of PBR Nevada was Skyhawk leadoiff hitter, Caleb Hubbard.

Scouting Notes:

‘20 Caleb Hubbard, 2B (Silverado), Lean, 6-foot-0, 155, Hubbard has room for weight and strength gains. He displayed solid actions and instincts for the second base position, ranging behind first base in foul territory to catch a pop up. He showed a feel for touch throws to start double plays and with arm strength improvement may be able to move to the other side of the bag. In the box, he maintained a simple approach with efficient movements and a short stroke. He had solid barrel feel and could be counted on to situationally hit. His line drive to all fields orientation should allow him to hit for average and be a next level bat handler. Rest assured, we look forward to seeing much more of Hubbard as the season progresses.
