GAME RECAP

MCQUEEN (8) - DOUGLAS (1)

The matchup between the #8 ranked Douglas Tigers and the McQueen Lancers was set to be a pitchers dual and that it was. Nevada’s #2 ranked 2022 prospect, #1 ranked pitcher and LSU signee, Robby Snelling, took them mound against Douglas’ Uncommitted 2023 RHP, Braden Melandow, and after two complete things were all square. Snelling continued to pound the zone early and often, pitching with conviction and his fastball cruising at 90-92 mph from inning one to inning seven, throwing his slider effectively for strikes in any count, pitching guys backwards as well as using it as his strikeout pitch. He produced the best pitching performance of year, striking out 18 over his 7.0 inning Complete Game, allowing 0 earned runs while allowing only 1 hit, earning the win for McQueen. His counterpart, Melandow, worked with pace through two innings, sitting 85-86 mph with an 11/5 breaking ball that worked most effectively down in the zone, but fell behind against the first couple batters where the Lancers were able to capitalize and put up a three spot in the 3rd and an additional 2 in the 4th. McQueen was able to capitalize on a few errant plays that gave them the lead and allowed to extend later in the game behind Snelling’s stellar performance on the mound.
