LAS VEGAS, NV --- With Division 1 fall baseball coming to an end across the country, The University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) is concluding, like most. with the traditional Fall World Series competition.  Captains are chosen and they draft opposing teams from within the program to compete in a best of three, five, or seven affair.  There is almost always a wager of sorts on the outcome of the series between the participants and unbeknownst to coaches and staffers.  Playing mostly for pride and bragging rights, the “jaw jacking” and exuberance is easily detected and this morning’s contest was no different.  Although, the game ended on a walk-off single by the Red squad, professional scouts were on hand to get one last look at Bryson Stott.  Stott put himself at the forefront of watchful eyes after having standout freshman and sophomore seasons at UNLV.  Moreover, He played for the collegiate national team this past summer.  With many forecasting him to be drafted mid to late first round this June, Stott’s day to day performance will be of keen interest to professional organizations around the country. Bryson Stott, 2019, SS
Stott checks most of the boxes. 6-foot-3, 195. Strong body, square shoulders that taper down to his waist.  He has developed thighs and core strength. Not what most would necessarily consider a fluid fielder, but Stott has solid pick skills and a good arm that possesses the strength to make all the plays. He shows the ability to throw from multiple arm angles, ever important for the position.  He runs well with enough first step quickness to stay at shortstop although some might see him as a future second or third baseman. Defensively, he tends to play a little upright, bending at the waist rather than at the knees with feet “ducked” out at glove presentation. At the plate, he stands open and tall.  He strides closed with significant weight to the front side with the lead knee getting over the ankle frequently.  He makes most timing adjustments with his hands and occasionally gets into his legs. A patient hitter that some might see as unaggressive, he likes to see pitches early in the count.  He maintains barrel feel with the hand eye coordination to put the bat on most pitches and play spoiler late in the count.  He is a threat to “ambush” a pitch later in his at bats. The swing has some natural lift that could provide power down the line as there is enough strength and barrel release to achieve it.  Plenty will draw comparisons to Corey Seager and other larger body shortstops that have shown the ability to stay at the position.

PALO ALTO, CA --- A very draft heavy Stanford Cardinal team took on cross-town San Jose State in their final fall game at Klein Field on Stanford’s campus. All five of the Cardinal prospects who appear on the PBR Top 150 College Prospect Draft list appeared, as well as several others who should hear their name called this June. Here’s a look at the 2019 draft eligible players and a few names to file away for the 2020 and 2021 drafts. (Ozella)
