CSN vs. CNCC, Game 1: Scout Blog
February 9, 2021
In a rare Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday series between Colorado Northwestern CC and College of Southern Nevada started out with the Spartans taking an early lead, but with the help of Justin Olson's potent left handed bat, they Coyotes caught their stride in the later innings to take 9-2 win in Game 1 of the four game series.
Future Fullerton Titan, Johnny Cuevas, sat 91-93 up to 94 mph through 3 innings of work. His breaking ball living in the mid to upper 70’s and worked well off his fastball, especially ahead in the count. His changeup flashed signs of life, but missed down in key counts where the pitch usually is more accountable. He settled in in the 4th after a small mechanical tweak with a clean 1, 2, 3 inning utilizing each of his three pitches effectively down in the zone continuing it into a dominant 5th striking out the side. Cuevas has become Mr. Reliable on the mound for the Coyotes throughout his career with progress continuing to be made each outing whether its translated mechanical tweaks or understanding how to effectively go at hitters, he has earned the "Friday Night Guy" tag.
