Bishop Gorman: Program Spotlight
March 25, 2021
This year, in addition to the Scout Day Showcases, we are also going to spotlighting programs as a whole with an interview with each participating teams head coach providing insight into their expectations for Spring 2021, key players, incoming players, players expected to have breakout seasons, how they have navigated the past year and much more. The Bishop Gorman program has established themselves as not only a top program in Nevada, but in the country and before we head out the field, we highlight the current state of the program.

Bishop gorman SPOTLIGHT
Head Coach, Gino DiMaria
What are your expectations for your program for the 2021 Spring Season?
We are looking for a great year. We have built this team the last couple of years to be a state contender.
Who are the top returning players you have coming back this Spring? Expectations of those players?
Tyler Whitaker, Justin Crawford, Santino Panaro, Gavin Mez, Anthony Marnell, Demitri Diamant, Kamden Perry, Joey Randazzo. These are my leaders, I expect them to be the strength of our team. I expect them to lead by examples in all facets of the game.
Who on your roster do you expect to have a breakout season in 2021?
Tyler Avery, Pitcher - 2022
Joey Randazzo - 2022
Tommy Rose - 2022
Anthony Marnell IV - 2023
Maddox Riske - 2024
How are you preparing for the Spring?
We are practicing and we are playing in a Fall league. We have traveled throughout the West Coast to Dallas, Arizona, Utah to play in tournaments.
What has your program done to combat the restricted ability to play baseball over the past year?
At first we were like everyone else having to sit home. As things started opening up we got out and started playing games to where we were able to start practicing. Wanted to put the kids out there so they can be seen by PBR to help get these players looked at.
Do you have any college commits within the program?
Tyler Whitaker - University of Arizona
Justin Crawford - University of Arizona
Santino Panaro - UNLV
Gavin Mez - UNLV
Anthony Marnell IV - Oregon State
Demitri Diamant - Georgia Tech
Kamden Perry - St. Mary's
Joey Randazzo - Cal Baptist University
Besides a State Championship, what do you try to accomplish within your program every year?
Our number one goal playing baseball at Gorman is for me and my coaching staff to get our players ready in all phases of the game to be ready to compete immediately at the next level. We take pride in making sure they are taught and drilled to learn how to play the game at the highest level.

DIRECTOR NOTES
PBR Nevada Director of Scouting, Brett Harrison
The Bishop Gorman program comes into the 2021 season with extremely high expectations and rightfully so. There 1, 2, 3 hitters (Santino Panaro, Justin Crawford, Tyler Whitaker) are premium level prospects that make up arguably the top outfield in the country. Each player runs a PBR Verified 6.5 Laser Timed 60 or better and that kind of speed translates throughout their games as they wreak havoc on the base paths and routinely make plays that are anything but routine in the outfield. #4 hitter and first ever Blast Player of the Week, Gavin Mez, has solidified himself among the top pure hitters in the Silver State and has shown steadily improved his game behind the plate as well as at 1B where his athleticism shines through. Uncommitted Ivy League caliber student, Tai Nguyen, is one of the top power bats in the 2022 class with an impressive ability to consistently find the barrel. The Gaels have a "great" problem at the catcher position with three Division 1 catchers on their roster (Gavin Mez - UNLV, Joey Randazzo - Cal Baptist, Anthony Marnell IV - Oregon State) , all of which will see time behind the dish with bats that will need to stay in the lineup. 2020 Future Games attendee, Gunnar Myro, recently transferred into the Bishop Gorman and is expected to have to sit out for the shortened season, but will have a massive impact over the next few years. The only freshman to consistently see time on the varsity roster, Maddox Riske, has already settled in at the plate as well as in the middle infield where he will compliment shortstop, Georgia Tech commit and PBR Nevada ProCase attendee, Demitri Diamant, who will make a significant impact on the mound as well. The pitching staff, along with Diamant, includes the top Uncommitted 2022 arm in Payton Riske (son of Big League, Dave Riske) who has advanced command and feel for each of his three pitches as well as an ability to run it up to a PBR Verified 87 mph. Recent, St. Mary's commit, Kamdyn Perry, currently ranks at #3 in the 2023 class with a long, lean frame that should see his velocity continue to rise from the 87 mph he currently tops out at as he adds strength and size to his 6-foot-3 frame. To round of the list of starters is 2022 RHP, Tyler Avery, who has come into his own over that last few months with improved command of each of his pitches and his velocity steadily climbing. This group is loaded with talent and depth and will come in the 2021 Spring season as one of the favorite to raise the State Championship trophy in May.
