Top Tier Roos Tryouts: Standouts

The Top Tier Roos held their 2021 Summer tryouts Friday, December 18th to Sunday, December 20th in both Oldsmar and St. Petersburg, FL. The event featured players from the 2021-2025 classes participating in batting practice on day one, a defensive workout on day two, and live games on game three. The PBR Florida staff was in attendance for coverage.

Today we will breakdown the Roos tryout highlighting the standouts from each class. The event was loaded with talent, but several players stood out the most.
2022 Standouts
John Barreto SS / OF / Brooks DeBartolo, FL / 2022Rankings StateRank: 243 / POS: 55
Barreto is a gamer who shows ability in both the infield and outfield. Moves athletically with a quick first step and is an above average defender in both spots. Has an above average arm up to 85 mph from the OF. Offensively, the bat plays with a simple line drive approach. Barreto is uncommitted.

Anthony Beaton RHP / 1B / Wesley Chapel , FL / 2022Beaton is a strong bodied right hander at 6-foot-2, 240 pounds. Fastball sat 81-84 with heavy action. Generated a ton of swings and misses in his inning of work. Showed feel for the secondary stuff. Uncommitted arm who should continue to make strides on the mound.

Alexander Berinato RHP / 1B / Palm Harbor University, FL / 2022Berinato is an athletic two way guy, but I really like the upside on the mound. Lean athletic frame with simple repeatable mechanics. Fastball was up to 84 but there’s a lot more in the tank as he adds strength. Berinato is uncommitted.

Jessiah Branch SS / 2B / Dunedin , FL / 2022Rankings StateRank: 218 / POS: 49
Branch really caught my attention during the defensive portion of the workout. Hands work quick and cleanly at short. Moves athletically to both sides with confidence. Arm is slightly above average but the defensive actions are advanced. Branch is uncommitted.

Hayden Cockman C / 3B / Sunlake, FL / 2022Cockman is an athletic catcher who moves well and shows ability all over the field. Ran a 6.83 60 and showed an above average arm in the infield and outfield. Behind the plate was up to 78 down to 2nd with pop times of 1.97-2.12. Offensively, has an aggressive line drive swing and showed present bat speed. Gap to gap hitter with power potential. Exit velos were up to 94.67 mph and had multiple hits in game. Cockman is uncommitted.

Zachary Crawford SS / 2B / JW Mitchell, FL / 2022Rankings StateRank: 109 / POS: 22
Crawford continues to be an impressive uncommitted player on both sides of the ball. Projectable, lanky frame. Ran a 6.83 and is an above average defender at short. Offensively, has a line drive up the middle approach with a knack for finding the barrel.

Tyler Ganoe OF / 2B / River Ridge, FL / 2022Ganoe showed his athleticism all over the field. Showed above average actions in the infield and outfield with an above average arm. Offensively is short and compact to the ball. Loose, quick hands attack the ball with a line drive approach. Ran a 6.83. Ganoe is uncommitted.

Quentin Meadows SS / OF / Wharton, FL / 2022Rankings StateRank: 153 / POS: 36
Meadows looks to have gotten more physical. Had one of the loudest rounds of BP on the weekend. Showed above average bat speed with exit velos up to 96.54 mph. Continues to show the hit ability and is starting to show more power potential. Meadows is uncommitted.

Monile is an athletic outfielder who has a chance to stick in center field at the next level. Ran a 6.87 and covers ground well with a quick first step in the outfield. Amai Rivera-Martinez 1B / LHP / Northeast, FL / 2022Rankings StateRank: 242 / POS: 13
Rivera-Martinez is a tall lanky first baseman who is an above average defender at first. Offensively, he really impressed during BP. Uses his long frame to create leverage in the swing with a gap to gap approach. Exit velo up to 93.62 mph. Rivera-Martinez is uncommitted.

Christopher Roberts SS / 2B / Steinbrenner, FL / 2022Rankings StateRank: 98 / POS: 18
Roberts continues to make jumps when we see him. Has added some more physicality and it shows. Offensively, has some of the best bat speed in his class with a violent swing. Roberts is aggressive in his approach, especially to the pull side with exit velos up to 99.47 mph. Roberts is uncommitted.

Matt Rose 2B / SS / Calvary Christian, FL / 2022Rankings StateRank: 65 / POS: 1
Rose was one of the biggest standouts from the weekend and it ended with him landing a commitment to USF. Offensively, showed loud tools in BP. Gap to gap approach with power potential to all fields. Multiple hits in game including a triple. Ran a 6.64 and is an above average defender at 2nd, 3rd, and short.

Nicolas Saccasyn 1B / RHP / Palm Harbor University, FL / 2022Saccasyn is a tall projectable right hander at 6-foot-6, 210 pounds. Really impressed on the mound with the fastball up to 88 mph with heavy downhill run. Showed swing and miss ability and is an interesting uncommitted arm to follow.

Sammy Seplowe OF / RHP / Alonso , FL / 2022Seplowe is an athletic outfielder with a projectable frame. Showcased a live loose arm from the outfield up to 89 mph. Showed present bat speed offensively with exit velos up to 95.42 mph. Seplowe is uncommitted.

Jace Trautner C / RHP / JW Mitchell, FL / 2022Trautner showed arm strength behind the plate up to 79 mph to 2nd with pop times of 1.99-2.07. Offensively, has a line drive up the middle approach. Low effort swing with exit velos up to 95.98 mph. Trautner is uncommitted.

Jake Vildostegui OF / SS / Steinbrenner , FL / 2022Vildostegui is an athletic outfield who covers ground well. Moves well to both gaps and has a chance to stick in center field. John Abraham RHP / Jesuit, FL / 2023Tall athletic projectable frame at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds. Fastball sat 82-86 mph with spin rates in the high 2300’s. Drives downhill and gets to extension. Late sinking action on the fastball. Interesting uncommitted arm to follow.

Jake Bechtel OF / RHP / East Lake, FL / 2023Rankings StateRank: 112 / POS: 23
Bechtel has an imposing 6-foot-4, 195 pound frame. A two-sport athlete who is also a starting quarterback. Loose above average arm in the outfield. Uses his long frame to create leverage in his swing and drive the ball gap to gap. Two way player who was up to 83 on the mound with a long, loose arm action. More to come as he continues to add strength. Bechtel is uncommitted.

Frank Chiliberti 1B / St. Thomas Aquinas, FL / 2023Chiliberti has a physical athletic frame. Left handed hitter with a quick bat. Uphill plane with a gap to gap approach. Hands stay inside the baseball as he drove the ball consistently. Moves well around the bag at first with a loose arm. Chiliberti is uncommitted.

Kodi Deskins C / OF / Clearwater Central Cathloic , FL / 2023Deskins continues to show his hit ability with an aggressive approach. Hands work quick and stay inside the ball. Attacks the pull side with intent. Defensively, is an above average receiver behind the plate. Moves well with 1.97-2.03 pop times down to second. Deskins is committed to Miami.

Chase Gilligan 1B / 3B / Wiregrass Ranch, FL / 2023Gilligan has a stocky, strong frame who has continued to lean out. Quiet approach at the plate with the ability to drive the ball to both gaps. Exit velos up to 97.70 mph. The power potential is real and there is a lot to like in the offensive profile. Gilligan is uncommitted.

Cade Kurland SS / RHP / Berkeley Prep, FL / 2023Kurland has one of the top hit tools in his class and it continues to show both in BP and in game. Allows the ball to travel and uses his plus bat speed to drive the ball back up the middle. Gap to gap hitter with power potential. Defensively is quick and soft with his hands and was up to 91 mph from short. Kurland is committed to Florida.

Landen Maroudis SS / RHP / Calvary Christian, FL / 2023Maroudis continues to show a high two-way ceiling. Lean athletic frame with loose hands at the plate. Above average bat speed with a whippy path as he attacks the ball to both gaps. On the mound, was up to 87 mph with spin rates up to 2316. More upside to come as he continues to add strength. Maroudis is committed to NC State.

Wes Mendes LHP / OF / Jesuit, FL / 2023Mendes might’ve been the biggest standout of the entire weekend. Ran a 6.67 and was up to 91 from the outfield. Offensively, shows strength in the swing and the ability to drive the ball gap to gap with power potential. On the mound was up to 89 from the left side and flashed an above average breaking ball. Mendes is an uncommitted two-way guy that coaches should be jumping on.

Steven Milam SS / 2B / Centennial, NM / 2023Rankings OverallRank: 39 / POS: 7
This was my first chance to see Monster Milam and I was impressed. Athletic switch hitter who can drive the ball from both sides. Looks more comfortable from the left side now but there’s a lot of upside from both sides. Defensively, has quick feet moving to both sides and showed above average hands. Milam is committed to LSU.

Aidan Miller 3B / RHP / JW Mitchell, FL / 2023Miller’s upside is off the charts. Continues to get bigger and stronger each time I see him. Was up to 91 from the outfield with a loose arm. Offensively, drives the ball to both gaps with ease. Above average power potential. Shows above average bat speed. On the mound was up to 93 mph with little effort. Miller is committed to Arkansas and has top round potential in the 2023 Draft.

Liam Peterson RHP / OF / Countryside, FL / 2023Peterson is an uncommitted arm who continues to make jumps on the mound. Fastball is up to 89 mph with spin rates up to 2408. Arm works quick and loose from a high ¾ slot. Definitely an uncommitted arm to jump on.

Colton Wombles C / OF / Russell County , AL / 2023Wombles is a strong framed catcher who showed his athleticism running a 6.81 60. Advanced behind the plate with a quick release and pop times of 1.94-2.03. Offensively, keeps the loose hands inside showing present bat speed. Shows strength in the swing with natural lift on contact. Wombles is committed to Auburn.

McCall Biemiller LHP / OF / Jesuit, FL / 2024Biemiller has made a nice jump showing a loose above average arm both in the infield and outfield. Offensively, the hands work quickly through the ball showing above average bat speed. Gap to gap hitter. Biggest upside is on the mound where he worked 81-84 from the left side. Loose arm that will continue to make jumps. Biemiller is uncommitted.

Clark impresses with his quickness and athleticism as he ran a 6.53 60. Level line drive swing at the plate with an up the middle approach. Uses his quickness well defensively to get behind the ball with ease. Shows athletic actions with a lot of upside. Clark is uncommitted.

Harriel was my favorite 2024 of the weekend. Strong physical frame and should continue to lean out as he grows. Shows present bat speed making loud contact in BP.
