College Crosscheck: San Jacinto vs. Texas
November 1, 2018
AUSTIN, TX - At UFCU Disch-Falk Field Sunday afternoon, Texas and San Jacinto Junior College competed in an 18-inning scrimmage, which resulted in Texas winning, 10-7. San Jacinto used power arms and power in the box to do some damage, but the Longhorns were a little cleaner defensively and capitalized on mistakes. Notes, thoughts, and more:
--- Texas jumped out to an early 5-1 lead against San Jacinto ace and top MLB Draft prospect Jackson Rutledge. Rutledge, who was up to 96 MPH out of a 6-8 frame, didn’t receive any help from his defense, but Texas worked three walks and made loud contact during his two innings on the mound.
Rutledge was sharp in the first inning showing some glove-side command with a fastball that sat 94-96 MPH. For a player of his size, his mechanics worked well with a short, clean arm-action, and there wasn’t a lot of effort in the delivery.
