PSA Scout Day: Quick Hits
November 16, 2023
On Sunday, November 12th, the PBR Canada staff hosted it's annual Scout Day with one of the premiere academies on the East Coast, PSA Scout Day at Premier Sports Academy in Paradise, Newfoundland. This event featured over 40 players from PSA's organization in the 2024 - 2028 classes and allowed our staff an opportunity to get an in-depth look at the players, as well as collect updated metrics via our tech partner TrackMan.
Today, we conclude our post-event coverage within Quick Hits article as we provide scouting notes and video on several standouts from the event.

Kieran Cutler C / OF / Mount Pearl Senior High, NL / 2025Cutler, 6-foot-2, 195-pounds, was one of the more physically mature players at PSA Scout Day. Behind the dish, he has soft hands and a 83 mph arm that plays in game, as we saw Cutler control the running game on the National Stage last summer at the 15U Ray Carter Cup. In the box, there’s some pop in the bat and elevated to his pull-side consistently throughout his round, finishing with an event best 91.5 mph exit velocity and a max distance of 332.5 ft. Good prospect out of Newfoundland that has a chance as he continues to develop.

Jack McCarthy RHP / OF / Mount pearl senior high, NL / 2026McCarthy put together a strong overall day on both sides of the ball at the event last week. On the mound, it’s a projectable body at 6-foot-2, 165-pounds, with an up-tempo delivery with a quick arm with feel for his FB/CB combination. At the dish, McCarthy lived towards the big part of the field making consistent line-drive contact that resulted in a 88.6 mph exit velocity and a max distance of 291.9 ft. McCarthy is another Newfoundlander who showed well on the National Stage last summer and it will be interesting to see how he develops going forward.
|
Simon Roberts RHP / 1B / Waterford Valley High, NL / 2026Roberts might be the most interesting arm in Newfoundland at an imposing 6-foot-7, 220-pounds. There’s some run on the FB that sat 79-80 mph and a tighter breaking-bal that was 67-68 mph. Roberts needs some work mechanically but there is size to work with and will be an interesting follow as he will still be on the scene for the next few years.
|
Alex McGrath OF / RHP / , NL / 2027McGrath, 5-foot-9, 150-pounds, has an athletic look to this frame with time to fill out. There’s intent behind his clean mechanics and arm-action with some bounce. He works over the top with a 3-pitch mix (FB,CB,CH) and runs the FB up to 80 mph. Good looking young arm out of Premier Sports Academy that will be a close follow over the next few years.
|
Giovanni Cosma OF / 3B / St. Bonaventure, NL / 2026Cosma, 5-foot-11, 160-pounds, was one of the better overall athletes at PSA Scout Day. In the box, it’s a loose/athletic swing with rhythm that produces line-drives gap-to-gap. He finished the day with a 86.9 mph max exit velocity and a max distance of 254.2 ft. Good showing from Cosma as he continues to improve every time we have eyes on him and is a 2026 prospect that could make some noise out of Newfoundland.
