Keystone State Baseball Academy was the host for the Unsigned Senior Showcase on October 3. A total of 20 participants from three states were in attendance to showcase their abilities. Today we begin our review of those prospects by taking a look at the catchers in attendance.
Jimmy Sayles, 2016, Sterling HS (NJ)
6-foot, 180-pound left-handed hitter took one of the top rounds of batting practice on the day. Uncommitted senior starts from slightly a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a toe-tap stride. Stays inside the baseball very well and showed the ability to drive both gaps with a solid 82 mph bat exit velocity. Excellent balance and rhythm throughout his swing with limited head movement should allow for immediate success at the next level. Showed above average defensive skills with a very accurate arm. Showcased pop times of 2.05-2.14 on throws of 71 mph from the crouch.
Simon Tague, 2016, Wilmington Christian School (DE)
5-foot-11, 180-pound uncommitted senior. Right-handed hitter starts from an open stance initiating his swing with a short stride to square. Loads hands deep creating some arm bar action. Displayed a line drive approach with a bat exit velocity of 78 mph. Ran a 7.69 60-yard dash and showcased pop times of 2.35-2.45 on throws of 64 mph from crouch. Exhibited a soft glove hand and solid blocking skills. Improved arm strength would lead to lowered pop times.
