Background
Nick DeNicola is a 2016 C/OF from Seton Hall Prep, one of the state’s most storied programs. DeNicola popped up on the Prep Baseball Report seen at the Metropolitan Baseball Classic. The catching prospect was selected to play for the Heartland Mets. DeNicola went 2-10 at the event against high level pitchers. Both of his hits were for extra bases and hit hard.
Scouting Report
DeNicola has a physical build and broad shoulders; checking in around 6-feet tall and a solid 195 pounds. He hits from the right-side and shows impressive raw power potential to his pull side, indicated by his batting practice and two weekend extra base hits. He has strength and leverage in his swing. My first look would indicate that he tries to get lift. He does have a swing and miss tendency but it should be noted that the pitchers at the event were participating because they are high level talents. Defensively, DeNicola has some room to improve but has raw arm strength and is a solid target with a good set-up. There is potential there for him to be a power bat at the college level and he should continue to get some quality looks this fall. He will be participating in the Unsigned Senior Showcase on September 19th and I look for him to make his debut in our 2016 state rankings shortly after.
