Super 60 Spotlight: Mike Bello

On Sunday, Feb. 7, Prep Baseball Report will host the 19th edition of its prestigious, flagship event: the Super 60 Pro Showcase. Since the event’s inception in 2003, more than 300 players have been selected in the MLB Draft, including 22 first-round picks and 25 second-rounders.

We started our our march toward the Super 60 earlier this week, by highlighting the prospects set to join us, shining a light on their impressive player profiles that they've groomed through their high school years and beyond.


Scouting Report

3/01/20

Auburn Commit, 6-foot-2, 200-pound solid frame. He showed off his speed at the event, running a swift 6.7 60-yard dash, which was good for top-3 at the event. At the plate, the left-handed hitter showed his power ability with an exit velocity of 90 mph. Began in a strong stance, had a smooth load and used a leg kick to initiate his swing. Shows an uphill swing plane and has high finish. Barreled up some balls throughout the round. Gap to gap approach. In the outfield, his best throw of the day was clocked at 82 mph; has athletic feet and a clean exchange. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. Had an-over-the-top slot with long arm action. One of the top players in the state, certainly a draft prospect for 2021.

2/17/18 

Auburn recruit. Bello stands at 6-foot-2, 190-pounds. Possesses a real athletic and physical build. Ran the 60 yard dash in 7.26 seconds. Recorded an exit velo of 87 MPH. The left handed hitter starts with his feet slightly open, weight balanced, and knees bent. Hands begin below shoulder height, near the body. Creates pre-swing rhythm. Small leg kick and stride, stays on time. Present barrel awareness. Consistent, strong contact. Explosive lower half, demonstrated pull side power. Defensively, took reps as an outfielder. His positional velo was 79 MPH. Approached the baseball under control but kept his momentum going. Showed clear athleticism. Made strong, high effort throws from a high 3/4 arm slot.

Underclass Games (September 24th, 2017)
Bello has a broad shouldered build at 6-foot-2 185-pounds. Ran the 60 yard dash in 7.10-seconds and recorded an exit velocity of 86 MPH. At the plate – Bello starts in a tall, slightly opened stance with hands in line with back shoulder and some rhythm in wrists prepitch. Uses a small foot stride to start swing. Short, quick and explosive hands to the ball with an uphill finish on his back leg. One of the top overall prospects from the event. Defensively – throws topped at 78 MPH from right field. Short, quick arm action – high-3/4 slot with backspin on throws. Able to play through his throws with momentum. One of the top 2021s in the state right now – high level prospect with a lot to like.
