Strong Pitching and a Steal of Home Helps Don Bosco Top Paramus Catholic

By TJ Hunt
Scouting Director, New Jersey

Don Bosco defeated Paramus Catholic yesterday with solid starting pitching and aggressive plays on the basepaths. 2017 RHP Jeremey Farraye (Pepperdine recruit) worked out of several jams to keep his team in the game, eventually only allowing one earned run in five innings of work. Farraye's fastball sat mostly 83-85 touching 86 a few times. He has a controlled delivery from a high-3/4 arm slot, with a short quick arm action - Farraye was able to command his offspeed pitches to keep the Paladins at bay. Flashed a sharp 11/5 breaking ball at 71-75 with fastball handspeed and tight spin.

With the game knotted at 1, Don Bosco's Seton Hall recruit, 3B Casey Dana mashed a double that one hopped the wall that was recorded at 94 mph off the bat. He made his way to third base on a wild pitch, and with two strikes and two outs, Dana's straight steal of home plate gave the Ironmen the lead.

Don Bosco's relievers were equally as effective, as Cincinatti recruit, LHP John Torres worked a 1-2-3 inning in the 6th. And Don Bosco's other Seton Hall recruit, RHP Ryan McLinskey slammed the door in the 7th to record his second save of the season.

Paramus Catholic's 2017 RHP Matthew Goehrig (Post recruit) was the hard luck loser in this one. Goehrig has a big, physical frame with broad shoulders at 6-foot-3 200-pounds. He revved his fastball up to 89 mph, and was still sitting consistently 87-88 in the later innings. Short, quick arm showed a 75 mph cutter-like breaking ball from a high-3/4 slot. Allowing only three hits all day (two to Dana), the ball seemed to jump on the hitters.
