Statistical Analysis: Top Prospect Games
August 24, 2023
PBR of South Carolina hosted its Top Prospect Games on August 19th at Charleston Southern University. The event featured players from across the state in the 2024-2027 grad classes. The Top Prospect Games continues to be one of the most popular summer events on the PBR summer schedule with several college coaches in attendance taking a look at the prospects in attendance.
Position players opened the day with an offensive workout, taking live BP on the field. TrackMan and Blast were used to track pre-swing and ball-flight analytics. Players then went through a defensive workout at their position, allowing coaches and scouts to get a feel for their athleticism, movement, and arm strength.
After the workout, the players where split into to teams and played a controlled game. Pitchers threw to live hitters in a controlled environment, allowing PBR Scouts to control pitch count and stress of each inning. Hitters got live looks at pitchers, allowing the coaches and scouts in attendance to further their evaluations after BP, in the live setting.
Below we begin our breakdown of the players in attendance looking at the top performers in select categories.

Swift Athletic Laser Timers were used to time each runner in the 10, 30, and 60 yard run. Below we take a look at the best runners in the 60 from the event.
TrackMan Max Exit Velocity (BP)
During BP, TrackMan tracked ball flight off the bat. One element TrackMan is able to produce is the exit velocity. Below are the top Exit Velocities produced during live BP.
Positional Velocity - Infielders
Infielders were able to workout at shortstop throwing across the infield, or from 1B throwing to 2B and 3B in the pro-style workout.
Positional Velocity - Outfielders
Outfielders worked out from right field and center field, making throws to the plate and third base. Throws were measured by a radar gun to gauge arm strength.
Catcher Pop Times & Positional Velocity
In the pro-style workout, catchers workout from behind home plate, making multiple throws to 2B, simulating a stolen base attempt.
TrackMan Info - Pitcher Bullpens
Pitchers threw a controlled scrimmage showcasing their full arsenal of pitches. Velocity and spin rate information was gathered off of the TrackMan. TrackMan analytics are the official analytics and the velocities below were captured by TrackMan.
