MORRISTOWN – In a cross-town rivalry matchup and rematch of 2018's thrilling Morris County Tournament Finals - Delbarton's 2019 LHP and Franklin and Marshall recruit Chris Sanzone limited Morristown to just three hits in a complete game victory.

The left hander surrendered just three hits, and allowed four Morristown players to reach base - however Morristown was not able to get a runner past second base for the entirety of the game. Sanzone was crafty, mixing speeds and locations at 83-84 from a true over-the-top slot. He mixed in a curveball at 69-72 with 1/7 bite for strikes.

Morristown's first threat on the bases came in the home half of the third inning - when '21 INF Aidan Watson led off with a single and was sacrificed over to 2B on the next bat. With one out, Delbarton C 2020 Willie Schwarick picked off Watson who was leaning toward 3B, and Sanzone collected a strikeout to end the frame.

Schwarick made his presence known defensively throughout the game. The broad-shouldered 5-foot-10 190-pounder nabbed Watson trying to take 2nd in the 6th inning, with the game knotted in a scoreless tie. Schwarick's defensive abilities make him one of the most unsung heroes in New Jersey High School Baseball - a strong armed, athletic catcher who has managed a pitching staff that is arguably the best in New Jersey with flame throwers RHP Jack Leiter (Vanderbilt) and and Shawn Rapp, (North Carolina) since his sophomore season. Certainly a name to keep an eye on as the spring progresses.

Delbarton threatened in the fourth inning - when Vanderbilt recruit 2019 SS Anthony Volpe led off with a single, but was cut down trying to stretch it into a double. The next batter, Rapp, grounded out to first base. However, the next three batters, 2020 Kyle Vinci, 2019 Justin Kim, and Schwarick all reached base on two hit by pitches and a walk to load the bases with two outs. Coach Bruce Shatel then pinch hit Leiter, who flew out to deep right field to end the threat.

Uncommitted 2019 RHP Caden Tierney (Morristown) was in a groove for five frames. He fanned five batters and surrendered just two hits to a talented Green Wave lineup. The broad shouldered righty was consistently 81-83 and flashed an 11/5 breaker for strikes at 71-72.

In the 6th, Morristown skipper Ed Collins went with talented left hander, uncommitted 2020 Patrick Montfort to keep the game at bay. Montfort's first inning was solid - getting Volpe looking and after Rapp singled, getting Vinci to ground into a 4-6-3 double play.

Montfort was 85-86 consistently for two frames - featuring a top-to-bottom breaker at 68-71. Showed some fastball command, moving in and out at ease.

In the top of the 7th, Schwarick walked with one out and after Montfort collected his second strikeout of the inning, surrendered a walk to Nick McLaughlin. The No. 9 batter, 2020 Liam Corcoran came up to the plate and drove home the game's first run, a single that faded toward right center which Morristown CF Tommy Burns dove for and just missed, scoring Schwarick's courtesy runner from 2B. McLaughlin came across to score a few pitches later, on a wild pitch to make the score 2-0

Morristown's bottom of the 7th threat was cut short. Lead off batter Justin Barrett walked - but was caught stealing again by Schwarick from behind the dish. Virginia recruit '19 C Tate Ballestero then lined out to center and next batter Joe Pucek gave one a ride to RF, but was caught.

Delbarton moves to 4-1 on the season - suffering a tough extra inning loss at the National High School Invitational in Cary, NC just last week. Morristown falls to 2-3 on the young season.
