NEW YORK CITY—Sunday was championship day at the 2016 Metropolitan Baseball Classic and featured a rematch of the 2013 title game between Team Elite and the Evoshield Canes. Team Elite won 6-0 in the inaugural championship and won in 2014 too, but the Canes exacted revenge this year, dominating on both sides of the ball. LHPs Austin Weiermiller (Cambridge HS, GA) and MacKenzie Gore (Whiteville HS, NC) combined for a one-hit shutout and the lineup exploded for 12 runs on 16 hits. The Canes also took advantage of several costly errors by Team Elite.
