Diamond Jacks Scout Day: Top Performers

Diamond Jacks Scout Day was the first of the year for PBR New Jersey, hosted on February 20th at Iron Peak Sports. The Diamond Jacks play host to some of the top talent in the state, and this scout day was a great opportunity to see these guys in action ahead of the HS season. Let's take a look at some of the standout performances.

2024 Top Prospects

+ 2024 OF/1B Thomas Cano-Piszel (Central Bucks East HS, PA) is extremely strong and athletic at 6-foot-2, 190-pounds. Piszel had impressive metrics across the board. 85 MPH positional velo from both the outfield and infield, a 6.92 second 60-yard dash, to go with a 96 MPH top exit velo. Tall and balanced setup at the plate, maintains a simple approach with not many wasted movements. Whippy barrel flies through the zone. Showed easy gap-to-gap pop. 

 

+ Another impressive day came from 2024 C/OF Christian Salgado (St. Joseph's Metuchen HS). Real loose and relaxed stance, slightly open. Creates separation in his load. Explosive actions through the zone. Consistently strong contact through the middle of the field. Up to 75 MPH on throws from behind the dish, top exit velo of 97 MPH. 

 

2025 Top Prospects 

+ 2025 OF Jayden Capindica (Immaculata HS) has been a steady performer, continued to show well. Long and wiry frame, at 6-foot-2, 185-pounds. Balanced stance with a simple load, stays on time. Gets the barrel on plane, line drives throughout his round. Top exit velocity of 88 MPH. Capindica also ran the 60 yard dash in 6.76 seconds with a top velo of 81 MPH on throws from the outfield. 

 

+ Another 2025 OF with a strong day was Anthony DeNora (Governor Livingston HS). Strong and physical build at 5-foot-10, 185-pounds. Rhythm in his approach at the plate, utilizing a toe-tap stride. Efficient lower half, clears his hips through the zone. Pullside power potential. Top exit velo of 94 MPH. 

 

+ A top 2-way performance at Diamond Jacks Scout day came from 2025 OF/RHP John Donahue (Montgomery HS). At the plate, Donahue showed advanced bat-to-ball skills with feel for the barrel. Hands get loaded in position and is able to create torque through the zone. Top exit velo of 93 MPH. 

On the mound, Donahue worked in the 83-85 MPH range with his FB, to go with a low 70's CB and 78-79 MPH CH. The FB showed some downhill plane at times and the CB had plus depth when located down. 

 

+ 2025 OF William Mahala (Seton Hall Prep) put up top measurables all day. Impressive build at 6-foot-2, 170-pounds. Recorded a 6.67 second yard dash and a top velo of 84 MPH from the outfield. At the plate, had one of the top rounds of the day. Works off his backside, generating pop off that back hip exploding through the zone. No wasted movements in his swing. Top exit velo of 96 MPH. 

+ 2025 SS Jayson Labrador (Immaculata HS) is strong and athletic at 5-foot-10, 185-pounds. Labrador has continued to mature over the years, and had a strong all-around performance. Top of the order type, consistently producing hard contact. Twitchy actions with a strong base. Top exit velo of 92 MPH. 

 

+ One of the top arms of the day was 2025 RHP/OF Justin Silvius (Notre Dame HS). Long, lanky and athletic at 6-foot, 155-pounds. Consistent rhythm and tempo in his delivery. Both halves work in sync. Lower half engages, rides the slope. Arm is long and loose with some whip. FB sat at 81-83 MPH, touching 84 MPH with downhill action. CB showed 12/6 action, thrown in for strikes at 66-67 MPH. 

 

+ 2025 RHP/SS Soren Gregor (Hunterdon Central HS) is lean and athletic at 5-foot-10, 147-pounds. Impressive set on the mound, filling up the zone. Maintains his stride direction, even shoulder tilt. FB consistently at the bottom of the zone, sat at 82-83 MPH. Breaker showed shorter horizontal action, acting like a cutter.
