Baseball Warehouse Workout: Five to Know

Baseball Warehouse had it’s annual Black vs. Purple World Series at Kean University last night. There were two teams comprised of 2020 and 2021 players in the Baseball Warehouse organization. There were several names of note from the rain-shortened event. Take a look at some players to follow below:

2021 SS Walker Zampella (Edison HS, NJ) was impressive in his batting practice, and showcased some of the best actions at the plate on the day. He’s quiet, relaxed in the box from the start, with hands above back shoulder and in a crouched, opened stance. Uses a small foot lift and stride to start swing as hands load up and back slightly. Aggressive hips and hands through the zone with line drive pop. 

2021 LHP Jason Gillman (Old Bridge HS, NJ) has some polish to him on the mound at 78-82 touching 82. Breaking ball has some sharpness to it with 1/7 shape at 67-68. High-¾ slot and creates some leverage down in the strikezone. Long, loose and repeatale.

Uncommitted 2020 LHP Ryan Ament (Sayreville HS, NJ) has a long, wiry frame at 6-foot-4 185-pounds. Sat mostly 78-81 touching 82 - velocity increased as his innings wore on. Slury breaker with 2/8 shape at 63-64 and flashed a changeup with some armside fade. Drive/drop type going down the mound with uphill shoulder. Shorter, quicker arm action with some armside run on fastball as well. 

Penn State recruit 2020 SS Jay Harry (Metuchen HS, NJ) has continued his rise in the rankings after an oustanding beginning of the summer. 6-feet 195-pounds with broad shoulders and strong lower half. LHH with leg lift and weight exchange. Creates prepitch rhythm in hands. Effortless power through the zone with some lift in finish. Ball jumps off bat, power and strength evident. Sounds different off the bat.

Uncommitted 2020 RHP Noah Ruiz (Colonia HS, NJ) was impressive in his two innings of work. 82-83 with short, quick arm from a high-¾ slot. Armside run on fastball that tails into right handed hitters and compliments it with a sharp 11/5 slider at 68 MPH. Level shoulders going down the mound. Tall, athletic balance point. Firm landing leg and will land on side of front foot, causing him to spin off toward first base side slightly. Impressed on the mound.


BONUS
2021 OF Tyler Sommer (North Brunswick HS, NJ) - a righty swinger and lefty thrower with an athletic build at 5-foot-7 135-pounds. Small, opened stance - under control with smooth load. Small foot lift and stride with gradual hand load that goes up and back. Impressive bat speed during BP and a playing to keep an eye on as he continues to fill out.
