OAKDALE, Ct. - The chance to go to college near where he lives made the choice of making a commitment to Bryant that much easier for Jack Treat.

“That was a huge factor in my decision,” the Montville High School junior said of attending college just one hour away from home. “I’m a big close-to-home guy with my family. They’re not only going to be close, but it’s one of the best programs in the northeast. It checked all the boxes.”

One of the first schools to contact Treat on Aug. 1, Bryant had seen the third-rated 2026 first baseman in New England a number of times.

“The first thing I did with Bryant is I went to a prospect camp in the summer and I did well,” Treat reflected. “After that they saw me a few other times, including the Future Games.”

That event was pivotal in the recruiting process according to the 16-year-old.

“I was fortunate to play in front of a lot of coaches,” Treat explained. “Going to Prep Baseball showcases was big, and then the Future Games was insane with the amount of coaches there. Every coach I talked to said they saw me at the Future Games. Prep Baseball helped me so much in getting my profile out there. I was fortunate to have a lot of interest and a lot of feedback on what they thought.”

Bryant came away impressed with the 5-11 182-pound southpaw who bats left-handed.

“They really like my playing style,” Treat related. “They love me at the plate and they thought I could hit good competition. Plus, lefties play really well at their field with the wind blowing out to right.”

Treat, who had 16 text messages and close to 10 phone calls on Aug. 1, the first day that college coaches are permitted to make contact with players in the 2026 class, “stayed in contact” with Bryant after that before going on a visit Sept. 10.

“Seeing the whole campus, it was beautiful,” the 16th-ranked junior in Connecticut said. “It’s kind of a smaller community and they have awesome facilities. But talking to the coaches was the big thing. They’re super nice and they know how to run a program.”

Central Connecticut State was the only other visit made by Treat, who was offered on the visit to Bryant and accepted exactly a week later.

“After I went to Bryant I knew where I wanted to go,” the top-rated 2026 first baseman in Connecticut noted.

It fulfills a desire to play baseball beyond his high school days at Montville.

“Since I was 12 or 13 one of my goals was to play at the highest level I could,” Treat explained. “I had college baseball talks with my parents about it, that I wanted to keep playing the game I love.”

Treat pointed to his parents as the biggest factors in helping make it happen.

“I feel the support of my parents had the biggest impact on where I am today,” Treat said. “They always knew it was a goal of mine to play at the next level and they did whatever they could to make sure I was in the best position possible to succeed. Those countless hours of driving me to tournaments and practices, taking the time out of their days to drive me to the gym. My dad was always there when I wanted to get extra reps in. I am super thankful for the support they have shown in my entire baseball career.”

His neighbor, Phil Orbe, is another that played an important role as a coach and mentor in making a commitment to Bryant a reality, as well as Mike Wall, owner and coach with the CT Crush.

“I’m a really good fit for the program,” noted the 47th-ranked junior in New England about Bryant. “They have guys that put in the work and it shows. I want to be another that comes in and helps us win, making an impact at the plate and with the team chemistry. It’s just a good fit all around.”

The feeling of a commitment was memorable.

“It’s surreal to have this opportunity to play at the next level and I’m thankful to (head) coach (Ryan) Klosterman and his staff,” Treat said. “This is a huge step in my career, but there’s always the next step to keep getting stronger and better. There’s always room for improvement.”

Treat, who carries a 3.93 GPA at Montville and plans to major in business, looks forward to his future playing for Bryant in the America East Conference.

“Being part of a program like they have, it’s going to be awesome around players like that,” Treat concluded. “Trying to get better to get to the next level while playing in a great environment for baseball is going to be fun.”
