Omaha The Goal For Central Florida Commit Kubiet

DOVER, N.H. - A commitment to Central Florida was an indelible feeling for Charlie Kubiet.

“UCF was one of my top picks, so I was super excited when I got the call and offer,” the Dover High School junior reflected about the day he made his college decision. “It was definitely one of the best feelings in my life. To secure a lifelong dream … it felt amazing.”

It was at the Future Games where Central Florida initially saw the 24th-rated 2025 right-handed pitcher in New England, who was playing for Team Massachusetts at the prestigious PBR event in Georgia.

“A lot of local schools saw me playing with NEB, but other schools, like UCF, saw me at the Future Games and other events down south,” Kubiet related.

It all made for a memorable day in his recruiting process.

“When Aug. 1 came I talked to Yale early in the morning and there were others later in the day,” Kubiet noted. “I talked with Central Florida around 10. I was super excited about that because I wanted to go to a school in the south so I could be outside playing year ’round.”

More than a month later the sixth-ranked junior in New Hampshire checked out the university located in Orlando.

“They gave me some dates to come and visit and I went in mid-September,” Kubiet explained. “They offered when I got home and I accepted on the spot. I was talking with other schools but UCF was at the top of my list and I didn’t take any other visits.”

The 51st-rated 2025 in New England found a lot to like about the Big 12 Conference school and baseball program.

“I love the coaching staff, that made the decision easy,” Kubiet pointed out. “The head coach (Rich Wallace) is a UCF grad and he has exciting plans for developing the team. He just came over from Notre Dame and the pitching coach (Drew Thomas) just came from Coastal where he led them to the World Series (in 2016).”

The new coaches at Central Florida believe the 6-3 170-pound 16-year-old is a good fit for the program.

“They’re definitely invested in projectability,” Kubiet explained. “If I put on a little weight I’ll be where I want to be. They like that I take pride in my game.”

It was in seventh grade when Kubiet decided college baseball was in his future.

“That's when I got serious with summer ball,” the second-ranked 2025 right-handed pitcher in New Hampshire reflected. “I knew then that I wanted to take it to the next level. I knew I had what it took.”

Recruitment began two years later.

“My first ever recruiting interaction was with Maine my freshman summer,’ Kubiet said. “They offered a couple of days after an event.”

The rule change for 2025 recruits slowed things down, but only momentarily.

“The Future Games was one of the best events all summer,” Kubiet related. “It was definitely a big event for me.”

NEB coaches Scott Patterson and Mike Abraham are also credited with playing a huge role in helping Kubiet in his recruiting process.

“Everybody at NEB is awesome,” Kubiet said. “I couldn’t have done this without them and the connections they have.”

All the assistance led to a commitment with Central Florida, something very special in the eyes of Kubiet.

“They’ve moved into the Big 12 which is a great conference, and it’s down south so it’s year ’round playing,” Kubiet explained. “The coaches are also nice. UCF definitely stood out to me.”

A 3.0 student leaning toward a major in business, Kubiet is excited about what is in front of him.

“I’m looking forward to meeting lifelong friends, developing as a player, getting better and competing as a family,” Kubiet said. “I’m really excited to play college baseball and to do what I’ve been trying to do since I got into competitive baseball.”

The Dover junior is confident about when he can provide Central Florida.

“Freshman year I want to make an impact,” Kubiet said. “I’ll bring energy, confidence and leadership. I want to take the team to Omaha.”
