Recruitment coming late for White

PEPPERELL, Ma. - Getting a late start in the recruiting process has Nick White attending Cushing Academy while still hoping to fulfill a goal of playing college baseball. “It just kind of happened,” White said of attending a post graduate school. “I wanted to play college baseball and this developed in the springtime. It’s the best option for me.” Admittedly, his recruitment is behind schedule. “I’m a little overlooked,” the 61st-ranked player in the 2019 class of New England said. “In retrospect, I should have started my recruitment earlier. I came from a school with no guidance on how to get recruited. When I started playing legion ball it started getting me going in the right way. But I wish I could go back and do it over.” Part of the late start came from a love for another sport. “Growing up I wanted to play college hockey,” noted White. “But when I got to high school I realized college hockey was going to be tough for me and that I was a better baseball player. In hockey a lot of kids were way more developed than me and for me to try and do that I would have to take time off and go to prep school and spend a lot of money trying to develop. I knew growing up I was a better baseball player, so I feel this is a better decision.” It has the North Middlesex Regional High School grad working hard at improving his game. “I’m bigger and stronger and throwing the ball harder,” explained White, a left-handed hitting outfielder. “I’m eight miles an hour faster than last summer in the outfield and (exit velo) off the tee. I’m understanding the game now at a higher level.” |
