Meyer Finds A Home At Forham

SHREWSBURY, Ma. - As a three-sport athlete, Ryan Meyer found the recruiting process different than anticipated.

“It definitely wasn’t what I expected,” admitted Meyer, a recent Fordham commit. “I’m glad to get it over with. It was hard to do school and sports and then add in the college aspect. It was very stressful.

“My older brother helped out, he had gone through it before so I knew a little bit what it was like. But it was hard to balance it all out.”

The Future Games helped bring exposure while easing the worries for the 72nd-ranked 2021 in New England.

“The first time they saw me was at the Future Games,” Meyer said of Fordham. “They invited me to a camp in October and they liked what they saw there. After Thanksgiving I went and talked with the coaches and they gave me an offer. Four days later I committed.”

The Atlantic 10 program, which in 2019 won its first conference tournament title since 1998, saw numerous strong qualities in the Shrewsbury junior.

“Fordham really liked how I got on base a lot,” the 6-1 185-pound infielder noted. “They liked my base running, they liked my consistent hard contact and they liked how I can play multiple positions.”

A visit to Maine and interest from schools like Pennsylvania, George Washington, Davidson, Dartmouth, Monmouth and Hartford brought several other options to the sixth-rated uncommitted junior shortstop at the time of his decision to attend Fordham.

“I liked Fordham’s location and the campus was beautiful,” explained Meyer, who lives four hours from the university. “They really made me feel welcome. Before they gave me an offer they really sold the school to me and I could see myself there.”

Meyer pointed to one part of his game as his biggest selling point.
